Sports bra - band too big? Empty Sports bra - band too big?

I bought a shockabsorber one week after my ba. The lady in debenhams was useless when I asked her if it fit properly and I ended up buying the 34d. It felt tight around the band even though I don't measure 34" but thought anything tighter would be too uncomfortable. I've noticed that it has started to look higher at the back. Does this mean that the band is too loose and I should use different hooks or do I have the straps too tight? Can't of ever been wearing the right size before reading info on this site!!!
