When should stitches be removed post op? Empty When should stitches be removed post op?

Post by Salmac 1st April 2013, 6:17 pm

I'm 7 days post op & Nuffield advised me my stitches should be taken out tomorrow. Problem is Nuffield is 1hr drive & my doctors said they couldn't fit me in & I've called them3 times ( I swear this is because they asked where the stitches are, I said boobs so they are treating it as non urgent)
Would I be ok to keep stitches in another few days until my local surgery will fit me in?
I would like someone to check my incisions as I showered 3 days post op & they got wet (I did dry & change the dressings!) anyone know?

'Generally' your first post-op check is between 7 to 10 days babe. Never heard of anyone yet having theirs at 2 weeks post-op so you're a first here willows!!

I'd personally advise you go for the check-up hun. An hours drive is nothing in exchange fore reassurance is it and your GPs nurse is no replace placement for nurses who specialise in cosmetic procedures hun. Xx

I had my stitches removed at 13 days post op. I wasn't allowed to shower or touch the dressings at all.

Wow - only ever read up to 10 - ya learn something new everyday! :ok: I'd still travel to the clinic rather than the GPs though. X

I can't really help I'm afraid, I had disolveable stitches. I did have them trimmed though at my first post op at 6 days. X

no hun, that's fine. The general rule is 10 days, but going a few days over is fine. Mine was 13 days, my wounds were fine and healed so they removed the stitches.

I haven't got an appointment with my PS until 16 days post op, he said he would see me 2 weeks after but couldn't get an appointment until the Thursday. Although saying that I have dissolvable stitches so they wont need to be removed, he will just be checking they are healed and removing my dressings as far as I am aware.
So I wouldnt worry Willows, I am in the same boat!
