Going back to work Empty Going back to work

Post by achorley 7th January 2013, 5:48 pm

Hey girls, hopefully booking my BA for march. I'm a health care assistant, I drive to elderly oeookee houses and care for them. Just wondering how long it took everyone to go back to work? Even part time? I was told I wouldn't be able to drive for a week.. But just wondering how bad you felt in your second week etc? I know everyone is different of course. Id only be going back to light work, lunch calls administering medication, assisting to toilet and maybe hearing up good, general things! Thanks girls xx

There is no heavy lifting for 6 weeks so if you have to lift any one it may be best to take a bit longer off. I had 2 weeks off and was very tired after a days work and I do an office job.

After my 2nd ba I couldn't drive for 2weeks, you may have to play it by ear Hun an just take each day as it comes
As misf says no heavy lifting for 6 weeks, so you won't be able to help anyone up or support them to walk.

I agree with the girls - people don't even suggest lifting a baby for 6 weeks, if an elderly person tripped or you had to hold them up, you could SERIOUSLY damage your stitches/etc.
Driving and paperwork should be fine after a couple weeks (I drove with unders after 4 days, but only because I couldn't take ANY time off work).
Just be careful hunni, pretend to them it's back surgery if you have to, and I wouldn't make yourself responsible for anyone who may need your strength to assist them for at least 6 weeks.

You may have surgery and feel great a few days later! You may take two weeks to recover! There's just no way of knowing how you're going to react to surgery until you have yours.

So you have two choices babe. You could either book yourself a week off and either go back to normal duties bar heavy lifting if you feel great, you may need a sick note if your contract requires you to lift.

Or play safe hun and take the two weeks off, so you can have a little time to yourself if you feel good or can reap the benefit of being prepared if you're having a slower recovery. Xx

I work in health care and took 3 weeks off, and I'm glad I did. Today was my first day back and I'm tired and sore.

We're not allowed to hold them up etc just assist so basically guide them with their zimmers lol! Yeah I think I'm going to book one week off then see how I feel by the end of that! If still feeling not up for it then another week and then just do light work like medication and food! No showering people or getting them changed lol! Thanks girls xx

Yeah same as others, just be really careful and know your limits. I'm in sort of the same pickle because i'm a student nurse too so picked a time when manual handling and stuff like that wouldn't be an issue. I know it sounds daft but you might even find the cooking hard if you're having to lift pans etc. x x x x

i would take the 2 weeks off and if you can go back to work after a week, can you do that? my work let us book holidays but if they arent needed we can cancel them

i had nearly 3 weeks off and by god did i need it and i only sat in reception and answered the the phone on the thurs and fri lol lol but i do seem to be one of the unluckier ones and had a rough first week

I do feel soooooo much better but def cant lift my youngest yet unless it was critical and mother instincts would take over and i would obv have too

I can do little things around the house but if i hoover, mop etc i get really sore and can see the swelling getting worse

my surgeon has signed me fit for work but is adamant i do no cleaning etc til i have seen him again in feb and would like me not to take my fitness classes again til at least 3 month

but like i say i might be just one of the unlucky and taking longer to recover and you could be fine xx
