Post by littlemisstiny1 6th June 2009, 2:46 pm

Hi,

Have been doing really well until now, not much pain, swelling etc and check-up fine yesterday. Then yesterday I took a homeopathic remedy Silica (as it said in the Mybreast leaflet it helps with scar healing). I'd bought it from Boots as the one from Mybreast that is a combination of 4 homeopathic remedies (weaker dose) never arrived in my aftercare pack).

Anyway today my boobs have suddenly over the last 24 hours got really really sore and very swollen, like they're really bruised and look huge. Just looked on the internet and apparently Silica is the one remedy you should never take if you have any implants or foreign bodies inside you as it can cause to body to expel them / have a reaction against them - help!

Just wondered if anyone has ever heard of this / taken it or if there is another reason as to why my boobs have suddenly got so swollen and painful. I did wear a kind of homemade tubigrip strap for a couple of hours yesterday the nurse gave me to wear until the strap arrived in the post which was a bit tight (so I removed it) but that was over a day ago now and if anything the boobs are getting worse not better.

Sorry for ramble, just a bit worried

I'm not sure about the Silica?? but my boobs got more sore and swollen after about a week for a good few days so maybe it is normal?? how many pills have you took as you would prob need to take more than one or two doses to have any ill affects xxx

I took that silica after my op too as it was in the homecare pack and was fine, no side effects, as did most girls who went with mybreast. I would call the hospital ASAP, tell them your symptoms and ask them about it and maybe ask to contact your ps as mybreast arent open on weekends x

Do you have an emergency number for your ps hun? you may have had an allergic reaction or it could be the homemade strap, i wore my mams for a bit after my op and my boobs really ached when i took it off.

Good to hear SW is going to give you a call LMT! It's probably nothing to worry about but it's good to get the expert opinion Hug

Thanks all,

SW called within about half an hour of me ringing St. J's! he was great, said he'd be happy to see me if i wanted to pop up there today, but it was unlikely to be blood clot etc if symptoms were same on each breast and they are both equally swollen. He thought it was more likely that something disturbed them yesterday when the dressings were changed / strap but it was difficult to tell without seeing me.

I said I'd sleep on it and see how they were in the morning and he said he'd be happy to see me tomorrow at St J's (even though it's his day off!). So I'm taking it easy, still v swollen, sore and hard but feeling bit reassured as he said the silica was fine. Just had visions of my implants being "expelled"! (sometimes googling stuff can cause more anxiety than it's worth...)

hi LMT, sorry to hear about your swollen boobs, hope everything turns out ok, sometimes it is best not to read too much into anything, i thinkthe swelling could be to do with your strapping like your PS says if its both boobs the same, hopefully they will feel a bit more settled by the morning Hug

Thanks, well woke up this morning and still feel tender and sore but don't think so swollen, so am going to just take it easy today.

I s'pose I am still quite early post-op so am hoping things are just settling and maybe I'm getting back a bit more feeling which cd explain why they are a bit sore - going to just keep a close eye on things and can always nip up in the week if they don't improve. Hubby thinks maybe having the tight strapping off, dressings changed, then wearing the strap home might have bruised them a bit, kind of how they feel so will wait and see - if that's the case they should improve I s'pose.

Did anyone else get sore and firm/ bit swollen a few days post-op apart from nicole777?

well at least its a little better hun, im a bit different as i had overs but mine wernt sore for the first 5 - 6 days then they started to feel really bruised and its obviously because i was getting feeling back into them.

I think you will be fine hun, its worrying when things are going well but its probably all just part of the healing process.

Aw LMT!! Hope you are feeling better? Sounds like your OH is right.

Also If I recall rightly, the internal bruising felt worse untill around three weeks!! everything knitting back together internally i.e. muscles, nerves, tissue etc. I would certainly visit P.S. if you feel concerned just to ease your mind, but sounds normal healing process. Unders with little there before do tend to disrupt our chests more. Thinking of you Hug xxx

I had overs, but I was still sore and tender after about two weeks. It does get better though, gradually. If you were quite small you PS may have had to be a bit rougher to get the actual implant in so that might be why you're feeling tender and sore.

Glad you're feeling better today
