Overs or unders if getting an uplift and implants?
Hi there,
I have been to see 5 different surgeons now, 4 of which discussed placing the implant behind the muscle, yet the one I seen yesterday discussed placement in front of the muscle. His explanation for it seemed to make sense saying that when the skin eventually starts to sag again it will do so but the implants would be held in place via the muscle so the two would not be congruent with each other. Surely though there is a good reason why 4 other surgeons have discussed placing the implants behind the muscle due to breast tissue?
Thanks
xoxo

If you have little or no breast tissue then going behind the muscle will act as a cushion as coverage for the implant.
If you have enough breast tissue, there's no reason for additional coverage using the muscle.
In saying that though if you require an uplift surgeons generally take your skin elasticity into account also. If you have little elasticity and are prone to sag, then going behind the muscle would probably be your best option as the muscle will hold back the implant and it will take longer for the breast to sag this way.
If your elasticity isn't too bad, then going over the muscle would be an option. Your sagging would continue naturally with the implant dropping with the breast. Xx

I have to agree with cookie. Sagging will occur with either placement so a re op would be needed in future whichever you choose. Its just whether your skin will sag quicker with overs or not. 4 seperate surgeons seem to think they wwould

I saw 3 surgeons and all 3 said go over the muscle with an uplift as the risk of double bubble is higher with uplifts and going over reduces the chance of double bubble as its rare with overs (although I think I am unlucky enough to have it with overs!)

it happens when your natural breast tissue 'falls off' the implant. It happens more with unders as the muscle holds the implant up and doesnt naturally drop with the rest of the breast

It sounds awful! :/ Surely though having a lift before implants will help somebody not end up with this side effect? xxx

In theory it should do yes... But occasionally things happen after surgery that no-one can predict.
There are pros and cons with both unders and overs. We all risk complications when having surgery.
But having your surgeon choose the correct placement for 'you' would lessen the risk of complication for you hun.
In all honesty sweetness if you've had 4/5 surgeons opt to go partially under the muscle I'd stick with the majority hun. Anyone can make their decisions sound favourable when they want your business and the odds of 4/5 surgeons suggesting partials is just far to high for you to ignore in my opinion hun. Xx

Mine are under, I like cookie would go for the majority.. With my first surgery 2 said under 1 over.. Why nit ask why they feel this placement is best for you.
