Itching scars driving me mad & swelling Empty Itching scars driving me mad & swelling

Post by misf1 28th May 2009, 9:59 pm

Is there anything I can do, I know it's a good sign, but since having my dressings off and stitches out a couple of days ago my scars have been itching like crazy. I love being able to shower now though. It had to be the best shower ever! Looking forward to a bath now. Swelling doesn't seem to be going down and at times in the day my bra can get really tight. I was a 34 now in a 36, did go up to a 38 after op but that went after a day or so. Could it be that I'm just putting weight on and will have to get to the gym (when I am allowed). I can feel the pounds piling on. Maybe this good weather will encourage me to eat salad. Dunno though just been eating comfort food for the past few days.

Yes your right I am comfort eating cause I'm bored. I go back to work on monday so that should help, and the weather is nice, so I have no excuse not to go for a walk. I'm just really looking forward to going back to the gym. Hope it comes off as quick as it went on. I don't usually put weight on on the top half of me, usually goes straight to my butt. Oh well, I'll work it off soon ready for summer.
Thanks Nat, I will try and be more careful what I eat. I really didn't need to eat half a pizza earlier

I'll have to try them, I've been trying to eat healthy and have had the weight watchers chicken curry, sweet and sour chicken and the deserts are lovely. Will have to stick to the healthy eating and stop turning into a couch potatoe. Haven't seen the pizzas though, I'll be getting some of them. One of my weaknesses pizza, and crisps. I could live without chocolate, but crisps, NEVER! I switched to french fries and Quavers cause they were much lower calories. Oh well, back on the healthy eating tomorrow.

You could stick them under a fan, cool setting on a hairdryer and an ice pack is good too. It is just a sign they are healing...touching and itching in public though .... not the best way to make friends and maintain a professional approach to work Hysterical

You will soon stop comfort eating when back to normal routine and it can take weeks for swelling to completely go. Take it easy on yourself Hug xxx

Try taking an anti-histamine (sp) for the itching... Something like Piriton. I remember the itching drove me crazy, but it doesn't last forever.

Take care. Angel. x

am I allowed to take an anti histamine after 2 weeks? My hayfever has been playing up so I could kill 2 birds with one stone.
I am getting the fan out of the wardrobe now and dont think I have ice packs, but a pack of frozen peas in a tea towel might do the trick. he he.

You have my sympathy misf1! I've not itched for a couple of days now, but had 3 or 4o really bad days! I used a cold compression from boots, it was great and flexible too!

Might have to pop into boots 2moz, maybe it's the heat, it's been so warm today. but the frozen peas are helping a little. It'll all be worth it though. :)

👍 Yes the compression pads from Boots are good!!

Also the little handbag fans...for emergencies Blush For now you can just wrap up the peas in little clingfilm bags and stick them in your bra!!! Ah!! The joys of boobs eh!! Enjoy!!
