what can they tell me at my first consultation?
So i've finally plucked up the courage to book my first consultation to get the ball rolling and I'm already soooooo excited!!!! happy days!
this is my first post so sorry if i ramble aha this forum is just so fab ive learnt so much in the past month from here! so here goes..
What things do I really need to mention in the first consultation? and what can they actually advise me on cause i have soooo many questions about risks, CC and bottoming out being my main concerns and size and profiles and well the list is endless. is it best to leave all that for my consult with a surgeon and just stick to costs and the company not the actual procedure?
I am such a worrier so I can see myself going on and on and on with questions that the pcc cant even answer, going to have to prepare a consult action plan haha so i know ive asked everything i should, hell i might even take a note pad and pen and write down everything they say to me cause i know ill come out worrying ive forgot something!
Thanks in advance girlies!

Hello and welcome to BJSF Christina
If you're having your first consultation with a patient co-ordinator then it's best just to stick with the basics with them. They are sales people with no medical training, so they don't have the qualifications to be answering questions regarding your surgery. Those answers should only come from your surgeon lovely.
Take a notebook with you to the consultation so you can write down any information that is given to you. You may be offered a deal on the day if you sign up for surgery that day. Don't ever do this, deals are always there sweetie and there is always the chance that you could sign up then not like the clinic, the aftercare or the surgeon.
When you see your patient co-ordinator she'll probably tell you she'll choose the surgeon best suited for you to see. This doesn't actually happen. The surgeon you'll get assigned usually has nothing to do with what's best for you, but will simply be the surgeon with the next available slot to fill.
If you'd rather choose your own surgeon rather than have the clinic choose for you, then you can call and request which surgeons work in your area and request a list of those surgeons.
From that list you can check the surgeons qualifications on the GMC register as well as BAAPS/BAPRAS registers if it's a BAAPS surgeon you want. Then go online and check for any paitient reviews, you generally get a feel for who stands out for you and you can then make an appointment to see this surgeon of your choice only.
It seems a little long winded doing things this way, but it's definately worth the effort I feel.
I'd also recommend you have at least 2 possibly 3 or more if you'd like consultations with different surgeons before making up your mind which surgeon to choose after researching them, the clinic and the aftercare. xx

Definately not a decision to take lightly hun. Been there, done that and suffered the consequences for it...
If you have a surgeon in mind that you want to see and you PCC wants to fill a free slot with another surgeon for you, they may try to persuade you that their choice is the one for you or that your choice is simply not available. Stick to your guns though if you specifically want this surgeon, even to the point of telling them you'll look elsewhere then. They'll soon have a consultation arranged for you with the surgeon of your choice. Trust me... they WANT your business. xx
