You have to wear them for the same reason I think, to help prevent d v t, I was told to wear mine for a week !! But I only wore them for a few days as my sister who is a ward sister said it would be ok. XX

I wasn't told how long to keep them on for so I naughtily took them off as soon as I got home. I was fairly active walking around etc though.
Best to check with your own nurse/surgeon as everybody may be advised differently. X

2nd time Lucky is right hun, the stockings are to help prevent DVT.
Some surgeons have you take them off as soon as you're up and mobile, others require for you to leave them on for a specified amount of time.
Whilst you're immobile you will be at risk sweetheart, if you're asked to wear them for a week or more and they're making you uncomfortable, it's always best to seek the advice of your own surgeon, often a quick call to your clinic explaining that you're up and walking around is enough for the surgeon to agree to allow you to take them off. xx

I had my op yesterday and could take them off today but I've been really sleepy all day and not done too much so I've still got them on just in case x
