Shower time..question
Hi all,
Just about to have my first shower in 8 days (I have been bathing though! haha) but just wanted some advice. I have these steri strips on..do I take them off before the shower..or after and replace with new ones?
She said take them off when you shower but it hurt really bad on one boob so I am thinking maybe if they get wet they might slide off easily after?
xx

Re: Shower time..question
I always wet mine then changed them afterwards babe, it just made things so much easier, after removing the wet ster-strips, I used my hair dryer on a cool setting to blow the scars gently dry first and then applied my new steri-strips. xx
Re: Shower time..question
Oooh I was only given one spare set of steri strips when I had a week until my next appointment so I just showered with the strips on, then dried them gently with loo roll. Then changed them after 3 days.
My post op advice always seems to be the opposite to everyone else's! Xx

Re: Shower time..question
I found out the hard way to let them be until they're ready to come off. I pulled them off after my shower, but pulled off the scabs around one of my areolas. Since then I left them alone until I was scab free, it was much easier this way.
I think that's why you may just have one strip Sunshinelady? Once my incisions were closed I swithed to much cheaper 3m micropore tape, but that's because I have to wear tape for quite a while, it would have cost me a fortune in steri strips.

Omg...why the hell do they use these stupid things because I just pulled them off (they wasn't dry either) and after the first one came off I went really faint and felt so sick and had to wait about ten minutes to do the other one...is that normal? Why do they use them on scars when they are so sticky it hurts so much to take them off? xx

That's why it's best to just leave them on until they come off easily. I've kept mine for a week, and ten days before. I would just dry them with my blowdryer on the cool setting. Now that I apply wome healing gel on my scars before putting them back on, and I no longer have scabs, they come off more easily, and I changed them twice a week. But until then, they would just stay on, the nurse who remove my bandages at my first check up did say they eventually just lose their strong stickiness, and that's when you replace them. I just wish I'd followed that my literally, I wouldn't have pulled my areolar scabs on the one side first. They're worth putting on, they protect you scars. I have to wear mine for ages, I'll be glad when I haven't got to anymore xxx

Re: Shower time..question
I was told to change my steri-strips daily LadyV and had to very careful not to disturb the wound. It's not pleasant is it. I ended up having to get hubby assist, it didn't hurt when he did it, I think 'cos I wasn't looking lol and he was very gentle ensuring he held the skin stable as he carefully peeled back the strip. So if there's anyone who can help you, you might find that better and if you're struggling at all do call your clinic and speak with the nurse sweetheart and explain the problems you're having, maybe she can give further advice to make things easier for you, like for some of the other ladies maybe youll be able to leave them a few days at a time instead of the one like I had to. Xx
