Hi. Does anyone know why some surgeons use drains and some dont ? My first op I did nt but my 2nd I did.Like nearly everyone I had an awful lot of swelling 1st time and thought I had made a mistake and got too big implants. When swelling went down they were great. This time (pip replacements) had drains and virtually no swelling. Had about 100 mls in each drain and it did nt hurt when they came out which surprised me. I did nt think to ask the nurses at the time. Thanks in advance x

For an initial BA using drains during recovery is simply down to a surgeons preference babe - For re-op's though many surgeons may opt for using drains.

You probably had a better recovery this time as this was a straight forward exchange of implants babe, so the pocket had already been created making your re-op less invasive than your first op. xx

Hi Cookie. Its funny because I thought my recovery would have been easier too as the pocket was already there so when my surgeon said recovery may take a bit longer because I had c c and he also had to drop the implants down a bit and make pocket a bit bigger. I had silicone bleed too. So all in all it took longer and I had bits of my body that were sore this time that were nt first time round . But I was just pleased to have my toxic boobs out !!. Just want to say thanks for all your wonderful advise, you really know how to make us girls feel better. You re a star x

Aww you're welcome lovely To drain or not to drain ?That is the question. 571992

You'd have been given a full capsulectomy from the description you gave sweetie, I had this too but I also had lymph nodes removing as well, so your surgery wouldn't have been your bog standard replacement BA at all hun.

I actually had a wonderful recovery after my 1st BA, I was up and almost back to my daily routine by day 3 it was that quick! My re-op knocked me for six and I was sick as a dog for the first week and still very weak and fragile over the next week too, but the re-op was a lot more invasive.

I'm so pleased for you too hun that you're PIPs are out, it must be such a relief now knowing they're gone. xx

Wow thats exactly how it was for me with the recovery ! Yes I am glad the pips have gone and that I was lucky enough to be able to scrape together the money to do it ! What about the poor girls who cant find the money ? I almost had a punch up with someone who said " well if women are so worried about pips just get them taken out for free by the NHS and be flat chested !!!! Idiot .Sorry for the rant but I get very cross about the whole pip thing. lots of love.

I had drains for my ba and mastopexy, and I didn't have much swelling, tbh I was expecting more swelling and pain.

It must be such a relief to have those pips out xxx

Hey :)

I didnt have any drains for my uplift & BA as it was my surgeons preference. He said it further minimises the risk of infections. I was pleased because I am very squeemish! x

I had drains and hated the thought of it as I'm very squeamish! It really wasn't painful at all, just an odd sensation!

My swelling wasn't bad at all (or didn't seem so, as I dont have anything to compare it to). I've also had no bruising!

I won't mind having them again in the future.x

Alot of it is down to surgeon preference honey. Some people bleed a lot during the op and need drains in order to prevent haematoma formation(which can still happen anyway). Also, drains carry a greater risk of infection, but can be very neccessary for some people to prevent further complications. I am a massive bleeder and bruiser, but Post op I had no drains and very little brusing. Everyone is different, but waking up with drains is nothing to worry about! :) x

I had drains for my first BA, but the surgeon who's doing my 2nd one says he doesn't use them as they can increase the risk of infection. I don't mind either way. x

Roxanne, was very very relieved to have pips out. I only had my 1st B A 2 yrs ago and was hoping to not have to spend any more money for a while yet on new ones. Glad they came out as the shells they were in were very flimsy and I had silicone bleed. I have my implants at home and they are very yellow and not full so that silicone bled into me which is worrrying but nothing I can do. Like I said in previous post I feel very very sorry for the ladies who cant afford replacement. I was lucky that I could scrape the money together (No new windows for me now !!) All in all the whole pip scandal is out of order. Shame on the gov for passing them as safe in the 1st place.x
