Woman fakes cancer to get fake breasts

PHOENIX - A valley woman wanted to enhance her bust, but she couldn’t
afford breast augmentation surgery -- so she allegedly started lying
about having a deadly disease so people would donate to her ‘cause.’

Lynn Toler has been accused of telling her mom, grandparents and
co-workers that she had breast cancer and needed a double-mastectomy and
reconstructive surgery -- and she didn't have insurance.
She said it would cost about $7,800.
Toler’s also accused of reaching out to Hallmark Hospice for help.
The
Hospice organized fundraising events, and the public donated. They
ended up raising more than $8,300 -- even more than Toler needed for her
fake double-mastectomy.
"Try to encourage her. Give her hope. Give her something to see a purpose through this," said Thomas Bettcher, Hospice Chaplain.
Then a mysterious debit to a well-known cosmetic surgeon’s office for a "supra-spectral breast augmentation" was discovered.
The
surgeon went on record to say that Toler had no cancerous masses in her
breasts, and that she had performed a standard boob job.
"She
would talk about symptoms, nauseated, not feeling well. She told me
about needing to get IV fluids. Things that never occurred," said Casey Carter, Director of Clinical Studies.
Toler now faces several charges, including fraud and theft.

What a dispicible woman!!! I hope they throw the book at her!!!

WTF is wrong with some people? There's just no excuse for that!!!

Oh my word....effectively stealing from charity. As I work for a charity that just sickens me further!!!!

Just to update this story:

The woman was Jailed for theft, given 3 years probation and is to pay back $20,000 to her 17 victims.

Sadly I feel the victims go far beyond the 17 who donated to this bogus charity and will probably affect the trust of others when considering donating to other charities.

I only wish they could have taken the implants back from her too, 'cos even after she's served her time, she still gets to keep her reward doesn't she. xx

While everything you have all said is completely correct I still feel sympathy towards someone that would be desperate enough to contemplate such a crime.

I just wonder about her mental state and how her breasts must have bothered her to such extremes that she would devise such a plan! I know how much my pre op boobs affected my daily life due to the way I perceived them. Just glad I could raise the money I needed to correct it....

I just can't find it anywhere within me to agree Lian... I'm sure there are few of us here that haven't felt pain in regard to our pre-op boobs, but to tell family and friends especially that you have a life threatening illness is just incomprehensible and cruel. The pain they must have felt having a family member/friend to have to go through that must have been heartbreaking that's not to mention the knock on effects that her crime will probably have on other charities too. xx
