Scar Advice Empty Scar Advice

Post by Oracle 28th April 2012, 10:58 am

I'm coming up to 4 weeks post-op and everything seems to be healing well.

I've had a stubborn stitch at the end of the scar on my rightie that has only just come away. My bra is rubbing on the area and its feeling a little sore and a bit pink.

It doesnt matter which bra I put on, its still being rubbed. Can I put Savlon Antiseptic Wound Wash on it to take the pinkness away or is this going to cause issues?

Would have called Spire but guessing they wont be there on a Saturday.

To be honest as its still open i would be worried about putting anything on it. When I went to my clinic they used spray on iodine when they took my stitches out at two weeks post op. I know savlon do a spray on iodine. I'm just not sure whether you should put anything on it.

You should give your nurse a call hun and she will book you in to take the stitch out for you, I had this with mine as the stitches were rubbing or coming half out and it became painfull but it felt amazing once she had cut them out. I didnt feel a thing when she done it so dont be afraid of having it doneScar Advice 184153 I had my " stitches trimming app" at 10 days post op but didnt have any thing to trim, mine came along 3-4 weeks post op so I re-booked then

youll feel 100 times better with it removed xx

I dont think there is anything there now, the mark that is left is like a scab that has come away, leaving white on the inside and pink on the outside (not angry).

I'm going to leave it until the morning and see how it is. I've covered it with a dressing to stop the bra rubbing it, so that should help.

I'd leave well alone hun as you are still at risk of infection. If you're having problems with your scar ALWAYS seek the advice from your clinic/surgeon. Should you use anything on it and it results in infection that may later lead to revision it's possible your after care could become void. xx

In that case then the stitch has probably come out of its own accord & now its healing, Id keep a close eye on it just to make sure its not infected or & if you do become worried about the scab then call the clinic.....I was told not to put anything on mine, even when the Knot was removed the nurse just gave it a clean with antiseptic wipes then covered it and said again not to touch it & leave it well alone......

Thanks for your advice ladies. I didnt put anything on it, just covered it with a loose dressing so the bra didnt rub. It's no worse today, but I'm going to give them a call in the morning for some advice.

I do think it looks just like when a scab is picked before its ready to come away - its no bigger than the tip of a little finger nail and doesnt look at all inflamed, but better to be safe than sorry.

If you're finding your bra might be irritating your scar Oracle try using a sanitary towel to cushion your skin from the bra band... works wonders hun and is VERY cumfy! x
