Post by lovebeauty14 22nd January 2012, 7:56 pm

Hi girls.
Was just wondering, is it worth it travelling really far for a very good surgeon with a good rep? It's just I have a consultation with Stephen Hamilton in a London which is WAY out of the way for me. Obviously though i want the best result possible & he is held in high regard but traveling to London is such a pain and would involve having to either drive for 3 hours or getting the National Express. Would I have to have loads of post op checks with him too that I would have to travel to London for?
Sorry I sound like a right moany cow! Lol. I just find London mega stressfull and just think I'll struggle with tender boobs at rush hour.
What do you think? Have any of you done it? help

I would say ABSOLUTLY!!!! But I have to drive at least 3hrs to get to any surgeon.lol! It's too much money to pay to have a botch job trust me you'll be happy you did. If it's like my surgeon you will have two pre op appts, then your surgery, check up 2 days later, if you have drainage tubes you will have to see him again 1-2 weeks later to get them removed, and then prbly at 3 months 6 months and 1 year :)

I initially chose a PS nearby but he cocked things up badly so now I do a 7 hour minimum round trip to see my new PS xx

Worth it to get a good result xx

Hi lovebeauty x

I would say that there is definitely a fine line....I am almost certain that there are many excellent surgeons out there and they, again, will most certainly be dotted around the country. However, if you have found a surgeon whom you favour then it is entirely up to you as to how far you are happy to travel....

By using the same principle, at my second consultation with Stephen Hamilton on Friday I was deliberating over anatomical and rounds....anatomical or rounds.....anatomical and rounds......my husband pointed out to me that my main main thing is that my new boobs look as natural as possible and one I have had my surgery I will want to be sure that I did everything I could possibly have done and made the best decisions to have the most natural looking boobs....how awful if I decided on rounds and they weren't quite 'there'...but with anatomicals I know that rounds wouldn't give me any more of the natural shape I am looking for. So, in comparison, if you decide that you only want to travel an hour max and so you feel that you are compromising on your preferred company / surgeon / implants etc etc... then there is a small possibility that you might kick yourself that you didn't go with what you really really wanted. Equally, what you could do is look for a surgeon closer to you who interests you and have a consultation with that person and see how it feels.....you might find that you are more comfortable with them and on doing a bit of research find out that they are held in high regard....in which case, you win!!

I hope this helps you. Think of what is most important to you and then weigh it all up :)

Take care.

I was an overnight stay which made a huge difference. My PS is approx 1.5 car journey. I don't think I would have liked or coped too well with a long journey home on the same day of my operation. But, if it meant I had to travel a long distance for the best surgeon, I wouldn't think twice xx

Thankyou for all your replies.
I'm also having consultations with Babara Lutz (in Bristol) with Transform and probably Mr Singh with MYA (also hopefully in Bristol) but from my research the one one I am most looking forward to seeing is Stephen Hamilton with My Breast. I really want a natural look, big, but natural. I'd rather compromise the size if it means looking natural as the fake look just isn't for me. I also like the shape of my own breasts, they just aren't big enough so I want to make sure my surgeon is as much the perfectionist as possible and gives me exactly what I want.
Are there any exceptional surgeons in the South West that have a good reputation, especially with My Breast?

Would you say that staying overnight helps a lot then?
I'm so worried about booking the op as my husband is in the Navy working in a front line air sqn and could get sent out any time and my father in law has just got a job in Aberdeen! So I terrified that I'll have to have my op on my own and have to make my way through London on my own as none of my family can get to me!
Does anyone know the The Hospital Of Saint Johns and Elizabeth? Is there parking near by? Sorry I'm a terrible worrier! Lol. Have an image of me swished on the tube trying to get home with my boobs getting banged into the day after my op! sad smile

I would say that if you had a responsible surgeon he would insist you stay at least 48hrs after your surgery, with the off chance of something going wrong you dont want to be too far away..and another thing I believe your not supposed to travel far for the fear of blood clots from sitting too long:)

James McDiarmid works in the South West I believe both at Mybreast and in his private practice, though I don't know which is a better deal. It's worth booking a consult with him.

I only saw two PSs. The first was a ten minute drive away from mine. I was very happy with the consult and the PS, and being local was an advantage. Then I booked a consult with Withey in London. I decided to go with Withey in the end, but it means I have to take the time and expense to travel. I'm looking on the bright side and making it a me day out in London. It takes me two hours to get to London by train.

I think if it's the surgeon you really want, it's worth it. But if you travel you should stay overnight. I could have been a daycase if I'd stayed local, but I have to stay overnight in London. It'll give me a chance to rest away from the children anyhow xxx

I travelled to my surgeon because he is suppose to be excellent and I have ended up unhappy. I due for a reop with him on the 15 may and the cost of travel is adding up and I still have to fly to see him if I want a check up. In in australia so so don't know of your surgeon but get at least 3 consults with different dr before you decide.

Honey you won't be allowed to leave hospital on your own, you have to have someone with you...... at least this was the case with me, but then maybe that is because you should have someone with you for at least 24hrs post GA.

I had the option to stay overnight (for more money) if I wanted to but as I live within 90mins car journey of the hospital I was allowed home same day.

If I hadn't found a surgeon I liked within convenient distance then I would have travelled but I am glad that my check-ups etc are all within a 30min journey of home.

I wouldn't advise to travel on the London underground the day after your operation. A taxi to the train station would be a far better choice. I feel all ladies having this operation should be overnight. The nurses were checking on me every hour after my op until it was time for me to have a deeper sleep at night. Medication can make some people feel poorly too. Do you have a good friend who could be your back-up to help you with the journey? X

I wouldn't have fancied using public transport the day after my op, I would definitely avoid if you can, if for no other reason you cannot use your arms to catch yourself if the tube jolts etc.

I'm getting to London on my own by train on the day of my op. But I wouldn't dream of leaving on my own and going back by train the next day. Best to arrange someone to come pick you up the following day xxx

I have booked a consult with James McDiarmid through Mybreast in Cheltemham, but he also works for Mybreast in Plymouth. I will let you know how my consult goes if you like (its not until 15th Feb tho!)

I have also found good surgeons with full qualifications and over 10 years experience in Worcester (10 miles from me) and Birmingham (30 miles from me)...There are great surgeons all over the contry, so i dont think you have to travel a long distance to find one ..but as Aurora said check out the ones in your area then if you dont find one you like you may have to travel a bit further.

Good luck xx

Right James McDiarmind. He seems to be held in high renown by yourselves so I'm going to go visit him in Plymouth I think. That's not too far from Yeovil and not as stressful as London.
Natty, I noticed that your statistics are very similar to mine except for the height. Do you find that despite having very big boobs you still look very natural? You look very natural in your avatar and don't look fake at all. That's what I want! Will be doubly excited to see James if he can give me a big, natural look.
Getting excited now! He he he! Can't WAIT to have big boobies!! lol. Stars

I would, without a doubt, travel to see a good surgeon. There probably are good surgeons closer to you, but if you're happy with a surgeon after the consultation and you trust they'll give you the result you want, I think you should stick with then if you're happy. X

Natty do you have unders?
Lol. G cup is huge! I think it would be mega hard to find bras J!
I was looking at bras in an E cup in ASDA and they looked huge! I was thinking I'd never fit in it, it looked like two world war 2 helmets sewn together! Lol. The idea of me going from a small c cup to that size seems mental, but I'd LOVE to be an E cup. I think though I'm gonna ask for the biggest I can get away with while still looking natural. Flash
