Travelling after op Empty Travelling after op

Post by Guest 29th April 2009, 12:15 pm

Just had my consultation with Dr Vrambout at Beaucare yesterday.
It seemed to go well -- I forgot some of what I was going to ask,
but I suppose that's normal. Rolling Eyes

I've pretty much decided to go ahead, the only question is when.
With Beaucare's current waiting list, the earliest time I could
have the op is about 10 June, if I book now.

The catch is that I'm going to San Francisco for the LGBT film
festival and gay/trans pride celebrations, and to meet up with
some friends I met there last year. The festival starts on
18 June. I can't think of a cooler place to be with new Flash !

I know I'm crazy to be thinking of an international trip a week
after a BA, but how much? I know I'll still be on painkillers then.
There will be some walking, but probably nothing too physically
exerting (take those smirks of your faces! Blush )
If it's only a little bit crazy, then I'll probably do it.

you won't enjoy and it's very risky - in the first few weeks you need to rest and heal as much as possible or something could go wrong with your new boobs or your scars. Plus in theory long-haul flights are not permitted for 4 weeks after you have had GA. I'd say have your trip, have fun and do it when you come back!

I travelled 2 weeks after my op as i had my surgery in turkey, i can say that even at 2 weeks and a 4 hour flight it was a struggle with cases etc also all the walking.

I really only feel completly back to normal now even 3 weeks after my op i felt tired and sluggish which is still the after effects of the GA, i agree with MM have your trip when your back.

I know its disappointing to not have your newbies for your hol but imagine if you went through the op and ended up doing some damage from over doing it, its not worth it. I know it took me a good 3 weeks to get back to normal and i was in quite a bit of pain, so i would reccommend getting them done afterwards that way you can enjoy your hol properly and look forward to your op when you come back, xxx

Sensible decision I think!!! More for medical reasons than pain I would think, you need to remember that they need time to settle and heal. Your choices on the poll were not very objective I think, the procedure is not neccessarily painfull but your body will have experienced trauma that it needs to adjust to.

Anyway, glad you have completed a part of your journey and feel good about surgeon etc. it is not something you want to put at risk soo soon. All the best. x

P.S. O.k. to be a little bit crazy, Hysterical but, common sense needs must 👍

i felt fine after a week physically, not in much pain at all and not taking any painkillers so I would say that maybe you'd feel ok but I still wouldn't advise it. You need to be close to your surgeon in the first few weeks just in case and also your not supposed to fly at all for a few weeks and no long haul for about 6weeks I think it what I was told. Need to be careful, I'd either miss the trip & get your boobs as planned or if you really want to go then postpone your op.

Yes, I wouldn't want to have anything go wrong with them while I was still in the U.S., and you're right that they will probably heal better if I take it easy.

Besides, the sense of anticipation might make my holiday even better! Thanks again for all the replies.

Bonkers Hysterical

Sensible head - You'll prob not be covered on your medical insurance (and let's face it America is the last place you want to be un-insured innit?)

Good time head - And you won't be able to PARTY!! You'll be on anti-biotics, can't smoke, can't drink (won't even be able to raise a glass of flat coke), can't dance and can't do any of the fun things that go on at Pride celebrations.

Agreed it would be fab for you to have a fine pair of Flash to dress up pretty, but you prob won't enjoy them as they'll hurt !!
