liquefying implants???!!!
Just read this article that the ps I am considering has on his website regarding PIP and silicone implants... I am totally worried about my desire for silicone now! Read it (the second page is the one I mean about the silicone) and post your opinions girls...
I have tried to find ANYthing else regarding this type of thing on the net but to no avail... hoping it isn't true (one ps said silicone only liquefies at 960F - whateva that is celcius? - and not to worry, but I know this surgeon wouldn't have it on his website if it wasn't true... bit of a buzz kill for potential patients I would think!!

Re: liquefying implants???!!!
960F would be 515 celcius.. so we're safe with that!! lol
I think that article was mainly focusing to the PIP and older silicon implants and not the new FDA approved cohesive gel (gummy bear) implants??..... Hmmm im not too sure what to think of this though. In a way it seems that the person who wrote it is trying to scare women into getting saline instead - well thats one way of seeing it i guess but it sure would scare many women into changing their mindset on everything..

Re: liquefying implants???!!!
...thing is I am not interested in getting saline as I don't want the sloshing effect So silicone it is, but it just seems strange that from when she had them put in in 2008, 2 years later they had ruptured and spread everywhere ...I didn't think the cohesive could ooze out of the case ... it is very very odd. I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light? Or perhaps ease my mind!! lol
TSmith, 515c is def safe!! lol But then how did her cohesive silicone turn so liquid they spread? ??? I'm so confused, maybe the 'soft' cohesive gels spread more?

Re: liquefying implants???!!!
I think any women who has is getting breast implants wouldn't be silly enough to pay all that money and not have the occasional MRI scan which isn't expensive even privately! When u see that surgeon see is he offers u silicone cause he stated he's sceptical when dealing with them so obviously still does also why didn't he mention that even with saline implants there not silicone free all implant casing is silicone! He's happy to work with that! Articles like this are there to scare girls if u look after urself and get checked regularly I'm sure you'll have a happy and healthy relationship with ur implants

Re: liquefying implants???!!!
i think its a different type of silicon they're talking about cos yeah like you said the Cohesive GEL doesnt leak out of the case.. So i've been told by my surgeon and read on the internet. Oh geez i dont know? lol its pretty confusing and isnt 100% correct. So dont be worried about this article. I also agree with everything Nikita said too :)

Re: liquefying implants???!!!
Cohesive gel is form stable. You can do a search on youtube about this. Even if the implant ruptures, tears in to a million pieces and does the macarena in you boobie, it won't spread, it stays together in one solid form, that's why its so hard to detect a rupture with them, it will look like a lump in your boob.

That was scary, a little worried now. Does anyone know how you actually have the MRI scan. Is it through your surgeon or NHS? Does it cost a lot? I had my surgery in belgium... hoping I can get mine checked here! xx

Re: liquefying implants???!!!
Is the report dated hun?.............There was ALOT of problems with the old style PIP and silicone implant.......
PIP implants were not upto standard and have since been in recall due to safety issues (There is a separate section for the PIP girls on here)
They old style silicon implants were nore a liquid gell so if ruptured yes would migrate to different parts of the body, But from what I was told ny my P.S the Cohesive gel is form stable. If you cut it open its like a jelly baby so chances of it migratin are very slim or greatly reduced.
My guess is that this is a old report done before the Cohesive gel implants were around.......the date of this report would help clear the situation thou

Im not sure if the NHS would do a MRI scan for us just to "check" if our B.A had ruptured but my P.S did say I should have a scan done every 2 years as standard (so think ill book into see my G.P to get some advise as he is fab)
Private MRI cost anything between £200-£500 depending on the company used.
I had a lump in my boob as was reffered to my local hospital for a ultrsound scan and the breast consultant was a lovely lady who said my p.s made a fantastic job with my B.A and that if I had any future problems with them to come back and see her.....
The lump turned out to be slight abnormal gladular tissue....so this leads me to think thet if you have a actual lump then yes the NHS would look into it to figure out where the lump came from etc but I dont think they would fund a MOT type scan just to check things are ok with out a lump that just my guess, I could be wrong!

It's on his current website link:

Click on the top article 3. link or just scroll down the page...the article actually refers to a woman who had them put in during 2008 and removed in 2010, so I imagine it's fairly recent! But I cant work it out as I am certain the new ones can't leak out like that (have watch youtube videos on the demo) but he seems to have info that it has happened ....curious as to which brand and level of softness they were... all a bit strange?!

Re: liquefying implants???!!!
I think PIPS were still used up untill about just over a year ago when they finally got banned, most good P.S and companys stopped using them a few years before that though as they had worrys over the quality of the product.
there is a very good chance he is talking about PIPs and the older style silicon if they were done in 2008. I had mine done in 2009 and I made sure at my consultation I was not going to get given the PIP implants as I new some companys still used them!

Thanks so much for the info crystal! I can see what you mean about the nhs not covering it. I'll definitely look into this. Not too high a price to pay every two years to check you're safe. xx

Re: liquefying implants???!!!
thanks crystal, I didn't realise PIPs were only banned so recently! Yikes!
The new cohesive were what he meant though, I think, because didn't the old style stop being manufactured in 1985?
This is the bit that's thrown me for a loop:
I seriously don't want to alarm anyone unnecessarily or be a pooper at all...I'm just trying to rationalise what it means... May have to email the surgery at some point and ask what exactly they are referring to in the document. It just makes no sense to me and goes against everything we have been told about the cohesive nature of gel implants.

This is the bit that's thrown me for a loop:
Is this type of behavior confined just to PIP implants? It appears not. In February 2008 another well known brand of high cohesive gel textured silicone implants were
inserted behind the muscle by a reputable Melbourne surgeon. Just 2 years later, in April 2010, the patient felt lethargic and unwell, developed shingles and a cough. She also had a lump in her right arm pit and a CT scan showed not only that her implant had ruptured but also that the silicone had leaked to her arm pit and had travelled through her chest wall where some silicone was sitting on her right lung. The left-sided implant had also ruptured

Re: liquefying implants???!!!
There's always a risk with implants that we know whether they be saline where the water can evaporate into ur body leaving a empty capsule or silicone that in rare cases enters other parts of ur body we all took this risk anyway and although I can see ur concerned some of the girls on this site may massive worriers and reading this may really panic them when he's written down one case I'd wait to see a few hundred of these cases comin up before unnecessarily worrying as 1 out of however many people have had breast augmentation is not really proving the hypothesis that silicone implants liquefy in the body

Re: liquefying implants???!!!
Your totally right Nikita..and as I was writing it I also was thinking that perhaps it was not really appropriate to continue writing about it as I don't want to worry anyone unnecessarily. I AM concerned, but more about the strangeness of it. Personally I have no doubt about getting the silicone as I feel they are quite a safe option now. It's just baffling how it could have happened - if it even did!
Anyway, just want to say I hope that any of you girls reading this don't assume that the silicone implants now would do this, I personally can't see how they could . It was just a curious strange odd thing to me... concerning if it is in fact true, but more so just for the lady that it happened to!
And as I mentioned in my first post, that I had searched the net for more info on it happening and found nothing....so don't stress,. Don't know why a ps would advertise this on his website ... wouldn't think it'd be too good for business! Lol

Re: liquefying implants???!!!
Yes there are risks with any type of implant, although nothing is as bad as the PIP implants. There is also surgeon error etc. It's good to know the risks, maybe the gummi bear style implants, which are completely form stable (can't leak) would be better for you and put your mind at rest.

Your best to get your worrys off your chest hun! lol ( sorry about the pun)
But you need to remember that there is P.S error, there is also going to be the odd faulty implant, thats just how the world works......I got a new kettle last week and that didnt work!

Is that not what the CUI impklants we have are made out of Misf1 as my P.S discribed mine as a complete form and he showed me one cut in half and it was like the insde of a jelly baby so shouldnt leak in anyway?

Reads quite scary to a pre opper but I've read on many websites that you can be given implants from a faulty batch without knowledge until they are inside you?! This will not make me think deeper about my op but still good useful document either way! X
