Visitors post op? Eating after GA?
Hi there, I'm booked in for my op on Sunday morning, I'm going in on my own as my mum is coming the next day to pick me up, but my best friend is being really sweet and wants to come and keep me company in the afternoon when I've come round.
Is this a good idea or will I still be pretty out of it after the GA? Also, are you allowed to eat whatever you want after GA? If so, do any of you girls have tips on what you were craving?
Sorry this is so random! xx

Re: Visitors post op? Eating after GA?
I was glad my hubby was there when I came back but then when I think about it that might have been the thing that helped to stop me going home as I didn't really rest properly after the op. If you're staying over anyway though you might appreciate a friendly face just for a short while.
I'd ordered soup and tuna sandwich for after but only ate the soup but did demolish that was lush. Really craved ice cream later on! Soft things like that are probably best, yoghurt that sort of thing.
Remember to have a lipsyl thing got a dead dry mouth! xx

I would take your friends offer up - nice to have a friendly face there when you wake up - its a very emotional time for you - even if you think you'll be fine the GA does make you a bit wobbly.
Cant recommend food ideas hon - am still gagging at the thought of real food - forcing myself to drink lots, milky coffee etc at the mo - think the meds make you a bit sickly - well they are me anyway. Nurse said I had to eat before I went home yesterday so I ate the Alpen Id ordered for breakfast - not great cos your throat could be a bit sore so I left it for ages too soften in the milk like baby food hahah - fuzzy's suggestion of soft stuff is good idea.

you can eat what you feel like if you have an appetite. I just drank loads of water, as you mouth gets so dehydrated and ate alot of fruit salad bcs i wanted to avoid the constipation. I did order a toasted cheese and tomato but only ate half bcs my mouth was sooo dry the sandwich was like carboard...lol. I know some ppl are really hungry and others not you wont be able to tell till the day.....

thanks girls, my friend has been asking what it's ok to bring with her so now I have some good answers! I'm generally quite hungry and had 3 GAs when I was little with no adverse effects so hopefully I'll be munching away happily! omg, so excited now! xx

Re: Visitors post op? Eating after GA?
Yeah, my friend and my BF both came to visit me after. Probably about 2 hours or so after I was taken back to my room, so it gave me a while to sleep, as well so entertainment in the afternoon!
As for food, I just ate what I was given, really! I had picked a dinner for myself, but no afternoon tea, so when they brought me a little sandwich, some jelly and ice cream, and a cuppa after, I love it all!

cool, thanks for the advice, think I'll text her in the morning when I have an idea of what time I'll be done by... I have no idea what I'll get given to eat, can't hurt to have a couple of bags of maltesers and some grapes about though! xx

Oh for sure!! My BF brought me a packet of Gingernuts (my FAVE!) along with a big bunch of flowers when he came to see me after my op.
Grapes and Maltesers would have even been better I think! Mmmm.. could go some now, in fact!
Only 2 days to go, you much be pretty excited now?!

Re: Visitors post op? Eating after GA?
I had ordered a chicken salad sandwich for lunch - had my BA in the morning and hadn't eaten anything since the night before so I was so ready for it! Best sandwich I've ever had! LOL
Also tea lady brought me a wee cake and a cuppa - I could have hugged her if I wasn't newly boobed! he he
