Which post op bra to buy? Empty Which post op bra to buy?

Post by dbs 7th May 2009, 7:35 am

I went and bought an ultra high impact one from m and s and after i brought it home i realised it was one of those over the head ones, and seeing as im not going to be able to lift my arms after the op Im going to have to return it. Just wondering if you have any recommendations of ones I can swop it for that you found comfortable while you were healing?

I bought an Anita sportsbra, and lady in the shop gave me a sales pitch about a proper surgical bra she had too which I bought (same brand). Thing is I found the same surgical bra in black after my op for half the price on the web from affairlingerie.com so got that one too.

I've ditched the surgical bra during the day & have tried on bras from Asda, Tesco, Matalan & M&S. I'm loathe to buy off the internet as I like to make sure it's a proper fit before I buy. Can't be bothered returning stuff.

I've found the only one which gives me proper support is the one from M&S. It's not actually on the web site, bought it in-store. It's back fastening with 3 fasteners so really wide band, big moulded cups that cover all the breast, wide straps, got a narrow single mesh panel between the cups (looks like a zip from afar) and it's the softest, most comfiest bra by far. Was £16.00 and worth every penny.

I think the £4 jobbies are good if your implants are around 300cc and under but put them on with anything bigger and they make them the most wierd shape, bit like you've stuck lemons in a sock and drafted them to your chest.

I've been using the Marena bra Mybreast sent me, and I've had 2 of the M&S extra high impact zip front sports bras (£18) which are really comfy and supportive. Just bear in mind as well that as your swelling goes down your size may change. I bought one size 1 week post-op and needed a smaller band one week later, so may be worth getting a few at home ready to try and the sizes that are no good you can always return xx

I had the marena surgical compression bra too and still wear it sometimes, it was so comfy and had a low band so didnt rub on incisions, its meant to help swelling too as its a compression garment x
