Techniques for breast massage?
Hi ladies,
I have a quick question this time :) Have any of your PS's recommended that you massage, or move the implant around to displace the implant so as not to form capsular contraction, scar tissue, and/or to prevent 'hard' breasts?
As of today, I'm 3 weeks post-op (silicone unders). My breasts are still sitting high, almost near my armpits (like I can't cross my arms fully). They're not too hard but I feel like my right one is slightly softer and has dropped a little more than my left.
I've been reading online about massaging the breasts, or 'exercising' the implant and muscle so that they can drop and feel more natural.
My PS said that the massage technique was 'old school' in his eyes, so he didn't advise me to do it as he said they would form naturally. I'd like to try out some massage or exercising methods just to soften them up. I can't totally move them as they're a little firm still for only being 3 weeks out, and it doesn't bother me either, but I'd like to try to exercise the muscle pockets around the implants.
What do you ladies recommend as far as any massaging or exercise techniques go?
Thanks for any and all replies and comments!

Re: Techniques for breast massage?
I have silicone unders myself and when they told me to start massages they told me to start with just a little pressure and push up and hold for a few seconds ( start with 2-3 seconds ) then work your way up to 10- 15 seconds on each then do circle motions after you've done to holding up for each side 3 times. mine didnt hurt so i did it reps of 3 3 or 4 times a day.. mine are soft and move nicely! good luck, Hun

Hi Lookoutgirl,
Thanks for your reply! How long after your BA did you start the massages? I'm 3 weeks out and am nervous that because I didn't start them (PS did not advise me to), that I might mess them up :< What do you think? Is it still early to start doing this, or have I missed the starting point?

Re: Techniques for breast massage?
I was actually told not to massage. The only real reason to massage is if there's a problem with the pocket and only on surgeon's orders, so if he's said not to them it's best not to
Re: Techniques for breast massage?
RoxyChick,
Yeah, that's what my PS said...there was no need for me to massage/exercise them. I have total confidence in him that he did the procedure correctly, so there is no need to worry, I just wonder that if I *don't* do it even after he advised that I didn't have to that they will get rock hard and the scar tissue will form :(
I'm just a little confused and I think my worrying is getting the best of me. To massage, or not to massage? I read everywhere online that it is good to do the technique (I even have a co-worker who got her's done about 4 months ago, and she says it's a must), yet in agreeing with you, I think it best I listen to my PS's advice.....just so much confusion going on in my head whether I should, or not.... :<

Re: Techniques for breast massage?
I recommend you follow the medical advice given to you by your surgeon. At 3 weeks post op your boobs are meant to be hard and trying to force your breasts into dropping this early could do more harm than good especially with textured implants. I was told not to massage and they dropped and softened anyway.
Re: Techniques for breast massage?
my ps never even mentioned massage so i'm thinkin thats of my list of things to do, just follow what you've been told to do hun!! won't be long till they'll soften up. Can u feel ur's yet?? x

Re: Techniques for breast massage?
You girls are right...doctor knows best (he's the pro, not me lol)...he's been doing BA's for almost 15 years. I'm sure if it were necessary, he'd tell me to do so. To each their own, I guess.
Thanks for putting my rampant thoughts on this topic to rest. Guess I'll just leave them alone for now and have them fall where they may, like a deck of cards lol. Everyone, thanks for your feedback. I really appreciate it!

Re: Techniques for breast massage?
Hey alymomma,
I'm from the states too and my PS didn't advise me to massage myself, but he did include 3 professional massages as part of the aftercare...(sort of odd having your boobs massaged but they're numb anyway LOL) they just kind of went in circles gently. But don't do it if he doesn't advise it!
