what a waste of time!!
hi girls.
well i went for my check up back to stoke today to have my dressings off...piled with questions...the little nurse who removed my dressings was very sweet but did'nt have a clue about after care, she said a breast care nurse should have gone thru it all with me back on the ward , but no one did...anyway....she did remove my steri strips ( thats info that zimbabwee girl wanted) i asked about bio-oil and she said start massaging scar with e-45 cream in another week, she could'nt answer any of my other questions about sleeping upright, when to start massaging, oh she did say i could try an underwire bra in a couple weeks but i'm not following that advice as she just was'nt sure about anything, i was in and out in 5 mins.......but on the plus side my scars look great and really neat so i will get pics up later...
also popped in' next' and tried on a 34c bra.....wowee it fitted very well but i still look a bit stretched in between boobs, but i was just chuffed that i filled it very nicely... (oh and my implant size was'nt in my notes either ) and i bought a gorgeous floaty flowery top with little cardi which make my boobs like very, very nice indeed...ooooh.. la..la, and some ivory linen trousers....
for what the nurse did in the hospital i could have saved myself 2 hrs journey and got the nurse to do it in my local surgery......but....i got to spoil myself too so it was worth it
oh....so i will just follow all you girls and what you do now seeing as how i dont know what my aftercare consists of

Re: what a waste of time!!
Aww, Sis. You must have felt pretty neglected
I'd let you have a copy of mine? It's all bog standard stuff but sometimes it's nice to have something to read when you need it.
Let me know if you want a copy anyway - it's been emailed to me so I can forward it on to you if you like.

Re: what a waste of time!!
Hi missmarie 60 - I have done several posts to you so I hope you get to read them. Am so sorry about the long journey gees ..... but the most important bit I suppose is that your scars are brill .... and you treated yourself - nice one. Miss Ellie may I also have a copy by email - I will PM you - are all the after care I am getting is from here ! ) Thanx Thanx ..... miss marie 60 if you read em-stevo - she meantions some special oil other than the bio - but i think you only start that rubbin on the scars in a good week or sos time so that the scars can dry out properly first and already healed a bit and also interesting reading about her wonderbra bit .. talk soon. Re: what a waste of time!!
Hiya babe!
Ok....first, yes your aftercare was a bit basic but you can get all the help and aftercare advice you need from your friends here!
What are you worried about hunni?
Let me try to help... first off, now they've removed your steri strips, you can shower as long as you dry yourself off with a nice clean towel... your scars will heal perfectly well on their own, now they're exposed to the air. You don't need to use Bio-oil or anything at this stage, that's for later when your scars are flat and completely healed...the oil will help with fading the scars and healing them. I was told I could use it for up to a year afterwards.
Sports bra; this gives you confortable support for the next few weeks while your new boobies are still firm and hard. Your muscles will naturally hold onto the implants until they finally relax and allow your implant to drop... the sports bra helps to support them while this happens.
Underwired bras; if you are going to buy one after about 6 weeks, make sure the wires are padded nicely as some tend to be a bit sparse and can be uncomfortable....try a few on until you feel comfy. I found I could wear one from about 6 weeks onwards...but I wore my sports bra when I was pottering about at home and when I was working. (I'm a hairdresser so it involves a lot of arm work!) But going out I wore an underwired one. (oh my! Did I!!)
Massaging; this can be done anytime. I found it helped in a morning when they felt a bit hard, or on a night whilst watching telly... it just eases any hardening and keeps your boob from attaching to the implant, which is VERY RARE, but as a precaution, I did it...but to be honest, it was mainly in the first few weeks, and now only occasionally, when I feel tense. Listen to your body, If you feel a tensing...massage. Its quite relaxing too!
Sleeping upright; this is necessary for the first week or so..it helps with blood flow as if you are flat, then in the morning your boobs ache like mad when you sit up. After the first week or so you can gradually lower your pillow pile (I started with 6!) til you're comfy! You do NOT have to sleep upright cos your implant will "dislodge" or "fall out of the pocket". This is not so. They don't create a great big pocket and but your smaller implant in it and hope it doesn't wobble about in there, and by god, you'd better sleep upright or it will fall out! Noooooooooooo!!!! Its held firmly in place by your muscles (unders) or naturally by your tissue (overs) and will not fall out! So sleep in whatever position makes you ....well...SLEEP! Cos afterall that's the major part of healing...REST! If you can't sleep upright and you toss and turn all blooming night then that's contrary to the healing process, and NO surgeon is going to berrate you for not layin upright, and being awake half the night!!!
Ok? It's not as desperate as we are led to believe...we often spend too much time thinking about what we think we SHOULD do, and less time on what our BODIES tell us to do. Listen to your body, your heart, your mind...yourSELF!!
Take it easy...drink lots of water if you can.. rest up. Be comfortable as a priority. Don't worry, Don't panic, and if in doubt....ASK!!!!
Hope this helps you and any other girlies who are in a state of panic!! Sometimes us old birds can be the wisest!! Its an age thing!
Love you lots my boobie sister...!

Re: what a waste of time!!
You're very welcome, hunni....xx
Its really all common sense and listening to your body.
Another thing... your boobs are TWO different operations...one on each breast, so each will heal and react differently...hence the complaint sometimes that one has "dropped" more than the other...each will heal at different rates and will eventually all come right.
Good Luck
