i dont understand why people dont believe that i wouldnt know what was happening with my surgery until the day it happened. a couple of other people also said that they didnt know properly what their surgeon was doing until the day also. i wasnt supposed to have this until late september but they rung me a week later and said can you come in in 10 days to which i said no but they had another date a couple of weeks later so there wasnt any time to have more appointments with my surgeon. plus i trusted her to do what she thought was best.

and im definately not 'taking the michal'. i just dont get phased by many things and personally dont see this as a massive life changing event. (and i apologise once again that i have been allowed to get them on the NHS when even i havent seen it as a massive deal - not my fault. i probably wouldnt have gone through with applying for funding if they asked me to write a letter explaining why i have an issue and to go through psychoanalysis) yes it will change how certain things will happen in the future i.e my bra may come off now in certain situations but i told her i wanted them done in a way that no one will be able to tell ive actually had anything done (especially as i havent really told anyone) - so just having them more proportioned and rounded etc.

Hi Jessica,

I dont know much about the NHS as I am from Australia and there is no way of having them paid for here in any situation.

With regards to you not knowing what you were having done up until the day, I do think its such a shock to us all because so many of us spend a lot of time and effort ensuring we get what is right for us. Although there are a lot of credable PS's out there they all have their personal style and its very important that your ps's choices match what we expect. For those of us who spend thousands on having our BA it would be a great dissapointment to have our BA and come out disappointed with the results, not to mention the fact that once our boobs are done we have altered our bodies forever, therefore the choise of surgeon, implant, size, profile, and placement should not be taken lightly. I have been on this forum long enough to see a number of girls who have needed a re op due to wrong choices made by either themself or thier ps and it is an emotional, physcial, and financial stain for them to go through an re op.

This is by no means a personal attack on you and your choices, but it is important that make sure that any one looking into having a BA does not think that is the norm to be so ill informed about their procedure, on this forum we like to encourage the pre oppers to be as informed as possible, to be their own advocate and ensure that they get not only what they want but what they deserve.

no its not your fault at all....// the thing to understand is that for most people here it really was a pretty big deal.. i know there are people here who have been denied for that who really, really, -really- wanted it.. // or (like me) they live in a country where there is never any option besides paying yourself. so they had to scrimp and save for literally years to make it happen for themselves, and it -was- a very big deal.

you know people have kids and are single moms and it takes a very long time sometimes to save up $5000 (or more) and people have to sacrifice a lot for a long time. we had to think about the fact that we could die and that we could leave our kids. so it really is a really, pretty big life-changing deal to most people here in a place like this. // i think thats what most people are maybe reacting to. // hope that makes sense. you got what a lot of people really want and really work for and are still working for and we hope you appreciate it.

I think you just seem very young and very ill informed. What I don't understand is if you don't really care and It's not a big deal to you why did you bother? It comes across as you just don't really care about anything and think you will just go get things for free because you can. There are women on here who are so unhappy with their breasts that it affects their whole life. They are refused help because their pct won't fund it and your attitude to how you got your op for free and don't really care is very insulting to everyone on here. I suggest you drop the attitude because you must care or you wouldn't have joined a support forum. Either that or you are just here to annoy the members

Jessica - to put what you've had for free into context and explain why so many people are getting upset, here's my experience so far:

I have a congential (from birth) illness, which means I didn't go through puberty properly - as a result I'm currently going through the menopause at the age of 22. Yes, 22. The NHS has so far refused to pay for any of my treatment related to this condition, despite the fact that ALL of my doctors have said they should. This includes having my eggs frozen using IVF, which has just cost me £4000 to have done, and also getting implants, so that I at least look a bit more normal. So far, myself, my plastic surgeon, my GP and my 4 specialists have lobbied my PCT for funding for a BA, and they've refused twice, despite the fact their guidelines say they will fund implants for people with congenital absence. I'm currently in the process of appealing, and will be seeking legal advice if they turn it down this time, as there's no way I can fund the surgery - all my money went on IVF, as that had to be the priority, and all my future money will be going into saving for more IVF treatment, as the NHS continues to refuse to fund it.

Essentially, the NHS is denying surgeries to people with really serious medical conditions, and to find that they're offering it to people who DON'T have a medical condition is bad enough, but it makes it all that much worse for people like me when those people are taking it lightly and saying 'oh well, they're free'. I'm really pleased for you that your surgery went well, but please bear in mind that there are other people on here who have had a really tough time with the NHS, and who I think most people would agree, are more in need of it.

Oh ella I'm so sorry you are having such a tough time with the nhs I can't even imagine how much stress this is causing you and at such a young age. I really hope the nhs help you and we'll support you here as much as we can. I think its disgusting they wouldn't help with the Ivf and having your eggs frozen. In fact it makes me really angry. All the best hun and stay strong Hug

And Ella's experience is the reason I have such a problem with this clueless girl's absolute recklessness and blase attitude.

When you see people who genuinely have struggled their whole life it makes me want to find out who her GP is and ensure they're investigated for wantonly giving someone a 'free' boob job, when she could clearly pay for it herself.

OMG Jessica, How could you let a surgeon go anywhere nr you without knowing what exactly they was going to do. Drinking the night before because you was terrified ?? We all get terrified before a MAJOR Op but value or lifes and people around us. Have you read this?
HOW LONG FOR DRINK TO LEAVE YOUR SYSTEM:
For nonhabituated drinkers, the liver is able to metabolize about 1
standard drink (0.5 ounces pure ethanol) per hour. This amount may be
doubled for someone who is habituated to alcohol.

Assuming you
are nonhabituated, you can estimate the amount of time it would take for
all the alcohol to leave your body by counting the number of drinks you
have had and counting out that number of hours from the time you
started drinking. This will give you a rough estimate of the length of
time you will have alcohol in your system.
If you are a habituated drinker, it is more difficult to estimate the
amount of time alcohol will stay in your system, since the amount of
increase in metabolism varies from person to person. As noted above, the
rate of metabolism may increase as much as to double your baseline rate
of metabolism.

It depends on the individual's weight and metabolism. If you can eat
like a horse and never gain a pound then your metabolism is fast and
you'll probably burn off the alcohol fast too. It can also be affected
by medical conditions and any medications you are taking. In other
words, if someone gives you a specific time for how long it takes, it's
probably just an educated guess based on their own personal experiences
or an average that probably doesn't apply to you specifically.

Found at = wiki.answers.com
I would love to know the surgeon on the nhs,The hospital should of gave you clear instructions about fasting. It is important to follow these. If there is food or liquid in your stomach during your anaesthetic, it could come up to the back of your throat and damage your lungs, and theres many more reasons.
I do hope you all the best with your 'FREE' boobs , its such a shame that other ladys have to go through soooo much and still get turned down.

Ella, so sorry to hear all that you're going through. I wish you all the best and hope you get everything sorted soon. Just avoid going to the same hospital as Jessica if the nhs do help out.

Ella, i'm sorry that you are experiencing difficulty in getting pct funding. but i think it goes by your postcode as i applied in one city and got the procedure done in another she asked if i wanted to apply where i was getting it done instead but that she wasn't sure if the new city had a more or less chance of being accepted. but as i have said previously i didn't realise how difficult it was to get accepted on the NHS until after i applied and had been accepted and also mainly, until i came here and have read everyones comments and experiences. maybe they just have some kind of policy that tubular breasts/breast deformities get accepted straight away as chances are they will eventually get accepted for funding so they save on other resources ie psychoanalysis etc.

with regards to the comment of making sure you do not see the surgeon that did my surgery - obviously you don't know who my surgeon is but i would like to point out she has done a fantastic job - far better than i thought she could have and even though i had no idea what i was having done until the day - i could have, i'm sure rung/email her etc but i figured as it was free i didn't want to pester/annoy her etc. people i have spoken to including nurses etc have all said how lucky i am to have my surgery done by her and shes the highest something or other at the hospital - even when i went to get my dressings removed yesterday the nurse was like ahhh your very lucky - shes done these incisions so well, and then something about a technique she uses to close the scars. i don't know if she was just BS'ing me and its a standard thing with boob jobs but I'm happy enough.

once again i'm very sorry to anyone i have offended and i would like to thank you for the information i have been able to get from other areas of this forum but i will stick now to googling for any information i need. and will also make sure i have a better communicaton with my surgeon when i have my next op.

dont let this discourage you from the group we all care a lot and we want people to be supported we're just trying to explain to you the reaction. //

also - just in case it helps anyone else trying to get stuff on the NHS - this actually often works for 'services' in america too.... if you live in an area of high demand it can be very hard to get services or assistance from the government, but if you are in an area of low demand or low population it can sometimes be much easier and faster for the same person to get the same services since they often allocate that stuff by area and demand in that area... (theres a certain amount of money per area) i dont know if the NHS works that way, but here for instance there is housing assistance where if you are elderly or disabled you can wait years or longer to qualify for a house that is subsidized, but if you apply for a house in an outlying area where few people live you can qualify much faster.... //

maybe this can help people trying for stuff with the NHS too. (like ella! omg.) just a thought. good luck with your appeal seriously. //
