Post by Rach 10th June 2011, 1:12 pm

Hi All!

I am a little worried that I may have a late infection. I have been diagnosed with CC in my right breast and today and yesterday it is very painful and tight feeling and there is a really large (10cm x 4cm approx) area that is very red and quite warm under my breast and around the scar tissue. When I last saw my surgeon he said it was possibly that the muscle under my breast was being pulled and irritated by the CC (righty is much higher than lefty!). Has anyone experienced similar to this at all?

Thanks in advance!!

Hiya Hun

I had CC but never experienced hot or redness on my boobs. CC does pull the implants out of shape though :-( If you want to see my pics I will mail you, let me know.

I've had a reop on 5th May and all is now well.

Hi Rach

I currently have CC, which to date I am able to control with massage.

However, initially I was disgnosed with mastitis because my boob was swollen, warm and tender, with a red discolouration. Apparently you can get mastitis at any time and it is easily tacked with antibiotics. I would get in to see your GP asap and have this looked at. Mastitis can progress rapidly and make you feel very unwell, hopefully it's not this. If it's a localised infection they can still treat it with antibiotics hun, get checked just to be safe. xx

Thanks ladies....it seems to have settled a bit now....it's still red but a much smaller patch. I'm going to talk to my surgeon.

i think it can happen at any time, like from three months some companies aftercare package cover you for this. However after having cc you are more likely to get it again, 5-20% more likely than someone who hasnt had it. xxx

Thanks for advice girls...I now have a mammoth breast abscess on the other side of the breast, so not sure if the two were related or not. Have to see a specialist out here next week and am on antibiotics :(

Thanks for your well wishes. Sadly things didn't get better....to cut a long story short my abscess developed a hole and a piece of gauze appeared to be hanging out. I am on holiday in France so ended up seeing a gynae doctor here the other morning as it totally freaked me out. She removed a piece of surgical gauze 30x8cm from a hole the size of my little fingertip!!!!!! It had been inside me for 9 MONTHS. Am really angry that all this time I've been thinking my body had let me down and now I know that all the problems with CC were due to this! Have spoken to a lawyer and am going to start legal proceedings when I get back to Spain. I'm now stuck with a gaping hole in my breast and so can't swim or do anything. Great holiday!! When I feel less yucky I will put the photos up for the more curious of you out there! I would thoroughly recommend anyone having similar symptoms to get an x-ray, I had 2 ultrasounds by 2 different doctors and neither of them picked it up....there's a blue metal line running right through the middle of it!!!!
Anyway, rant over....I just wanted to let those of you that have offered me support know what the outcome was... no pun intended! X

Goodness me, I'm just catching up with this thread. What a time of it you've been through! ? Late infection 571992

Don't you worry about this holiday hun, I know it's a bit of a bummer for this to have happened but your health is far more important and thankfully you've finally gotten to the cause which is fantastic! You must be at least VERY releived now to have found what has been troubling your breast all this time.

Great to read you've contacted a solicitor too hun, I'd have done exactly the same and you should expect to be well compensated for this error.

Hope when you get back home to Spain, your GP over there can start proceedings to help close the hole for you, I should imagine maybe a plastic surgeon would be best to deal with this and get the breast back to normal.

Big hugs to you sweetie ? Late infection 571992xx

I know this is an "older" topic but I came across it the other day and read your story. I am so sorry to hear what you are going through right now. I couldn't imagaine the stress you were/are going through. It is very upsetting how many doctors you went through and NONE caught this in time ? Late infection 221105 Were you able to keep your implants? I wish you all the best and I hope your legal proceedings go the way they should. My thoughts are with you xo

Hi Ladies

Thanks for your comments. Am now home from holidays, and the hole is finally closing by itself. I went to see a GP yesterday and she is quite confident that it is healing well and should not scar very badly.
One real plus is that my right breast has settled down a lot and the size is now more even. Am hoping and praying that I won't need another surgery (although I was looking forward to going a bit bigger!!!) to correct the capsular contracture, but I guess only time will tell this. Have decided to wait at least 6 months before I even consider doing anything else... in any case the tissue needs to heal internally as well before I can do anything.
Just about to contact the hospital I had the surgery in, to try and obtain my notes for the lawyer.....not looking forward to the reality of what is to come! Will keep you posted! help xx

It's good to hear that you're on the mend Rach. What you have been through has been awful, so I sincerely hope you have a good outcome hun. Take care and good luck with the legal proceedings, although I would have thought they wouldn't have a leg to stand on. xxx
