when to massage scars?
hi girls,
me again! :heehee: just wondering when everyone started using bio oil (or equivalent) on there scars? i was told at my 1 week check that i could start using it at 2 weeks but i have noticed my scars are still quite scabby and don't feel this was the right advice? i haven't put anything on them yet and just wanted to know what everyone else though?
xx

Re: when to massage scars?
I was told at my 6 week check up I could put bio oil on my scars, but they were not scabby at this time, they were pink and fully closed. It's up to you hun, if you dont feel comfortable yet, then give them another week or so.
Re: when to massage scars?
I was told once they are fully healed, and you have no more openings, scabs, or stiches forcing themselves out slowly (the internal ones sometimes come to the surface where they stied the know etc bc they dont dissolve), and then start putting it on. After my first op, I got the ok to do this for my incisions under the breast at 4 1/2 weeks, but since the areol still had some internal stiching trying to come out and I was getting a reop which included cutting there again he said not to yet. Hope this helps xoxoxo,
When in doubt ask your ps also hun, he'll know best for you :o)

Re: when to massage scars?
I was 6 weeks post-op also when I was told I could use anything on my scars, but this was 'after' the nurse had seen how I was healing and ensured the wound was closed, I did still have some openings and was told to avoid anything near there.
If your scars are still open sweetie, I think I'd be inclined not to use Bio-Oil just yet as you would still be prone to infection and until your scars have actually been assessed for using anything on them I personally wouldn't take that chance babe as you haven't actually been seen apart from your one week post-op check.
Just my opinion though hun. xx

Re: when to massage scars?
thanks girls, you've just confirmed what i already though...my post-op "care" is **naughty word**!!!
i didn't give it much thought until i read the bottle and saw that it says not use until wound is fully healed!! i'll wait until my next appointment with the PS and pull the nurse up about it then
thankyou xx

Re: when to massage scars?
I wll ask my surgeon when I see him in 3 weeks cos I want to use summin on my scar revsion (tummy) aswell. I have been googling differennt things about scar treatment and there have been a lot of positive reports about silicone gel treatments so I willl also ask his advice on them and what he recommends.

Re: when to massage scars?
I had my stitches taken out one week after my BA and he put some dressings on them after which i had to leave on for another week. but then he said to start using the bio oil, so i did! and its been completely fine. mine were a little scabby but there wasn't anything open either! all-in-all good stuff though! x
