very naughty of me but...sunbeds ?
Hey Ladies,
I know how bad sunbeds are for you and you really shouldn't have them however, for me I have the odd one or two every now and again for skin reasons.
I'm 6 weeks post op and haven't, up to now, considered going on but now thinking - could I? I didn't ask the surgeon as didn't want to be told off.
Has anyone got advice on when is an okay time to go on? Also those of you who do - how does it effect the scars? It clears my skin up no doubt with breakouts across my back and shoulders and even though I can live with being pale old me its that that make me go on occasionally...it gives me some confident.
Thanks everyone xx

General advice on here seems to be - cover your scars and be careful with the rest of your boobs as the skin has been stretched and you are more likely to burn. I have been having a few sun bed sessions as my daughter is getting married in 4 weeks - but I have been leaving my bra on with the straps off my shoulders, rolling the bra down for the last minute but still covering the scars.
I have had nearly 10 sessions at 6 mins each time and don't seem to have tanned at all - complete waste of £40 - think I will be trying Dove moisturiser with slight tanning lotion in instead.

I think I read that you shouldn't expose the scars to the sun for about a year after a BA, no idea whether the same time scale applies to sun beds. I think you should be ok after 18 months but may be best to check with clinic - as you wouldn't want to make your scars go dark again - I did wonder about just putting micro pore tape over the scars to protect them a little from sun bed rays.

Re: very naughty of me but...sunbeds ?
I had been told not to go in the sun or sunbeds for 6 months. I live in spain and one day was sat in the sun (not intentionally) in a lowcut top and within 15 minutes my skin felt weird. because it had been stretched with the surgery it was so thin and it gave me what looked like spots in a way on the skin, which took like 3 weeks to go away and that was 2 and a half months after surgery! i would not recommend sunbeds, and "fluffy bunn1e" i think its okay to go in the sun so long after surgery but id be tempted to put some high factor cream on the scars maybe, it's so sensitive!! good luck xx

I go on for the same reason as you betty, it clears up my skin. You must cover your scars completely for a year otherwise they'll go dark and stay that way, I use micropore tape on mine.
And also the skin on your boobs will burn more easily to start with as it's been stretched, so you should cover the whole boob area with a towel and just build up gradually, only uncovering them for the last minute and then longer over time.

Re: very naughty of me but...sunbeds ?
Hey huni I had my 6 week check up last week and this was my first question haha!
They said do not expose my boobs or scars at all. (Scars for over a year and boobs for 6 monthsish) as the skin is so traumatised that it can cause burining and it highers the risk of skin cancer!!
I'm a sunbed addict... And I had my first one tonighht. I kept my bra on at the front and just tucked the straps away and tucked the back strap into the cups. So basically just balanced it on my boobs :-) xxxx

I'm a manager of a sun salon- so was just wondering what power bed ur using and why u have carried on with 6 mins? We rexommeend 6 sessions on 5 mins for light skinned people who struggle to tan to get the skin prepared to tan then do 5 sessions of 6 mins etc and just add up. That's on a 600 powered bed!
How do u find ur skin in the sun?xxx
