Infection scare....
I had my strap taken off on Friday (after being strapped down for 6 days) and was given a once over by the nurse, who said that 1 of my incisions were't healing as well as the other one but all was fine. She told me to leave the dressing on until I see my PS the following week.
I had noticed that my dressing had changed yellowish colour over the weekend, but only really got worried about it today. I called the PC and told her about my incision and she literaly freaked out and said that she will arrange for me to see the surgeon asap. Unfortunatly the surgeon is still away on holiday and the alternative was to see another surgeon (which I had declined to do my opp). This i feel was weird and she agreed & then advise me to see my GP in the meantime. Luckily I've managed to get an appointment in for today....
I am getting so paronoid now.....but i'm not suprised, how can it be expected to not catch an infection if your not cleaning a wound! That in itself is bad hygiene practice.....
I'm dreading the thought of cleaning my incision, i haven't looked at it since I've had my opp.....

Re: Infection scare....
It might be a case that the wound is taking a little longer than the other to heal, I remember I had a hole where my incision was when I had my dressings off and was worried about it. It had cleared up within a few days which was a weight off my mind.
Good that you've booked in to see your GP so they can check it over, you may need a course of antibiotics to prevent an infection if there's a chance of it happening.
You've done the right thing, let us know how it goes.

That sounds scary hun!
I hope you appointment went ok and that it was resolved for you! It sounds like you're being much calmer about it than what the nurse was, so good on you!
Let us know how you get on.

Re: Infection scare....
Thanks for all your replies....
Saw the GP, he gave me some antibiotics and took a swab of the pus! *yuck*
I finally had the courage to take my surgical tape of my incision today and the incision having the problem just looks like its got a open blister. It dont hurt, but its quite tender around that area, it feels like when i get swollen glands...
My incision looks really ugly....the skin don't look even at all & very untidy!! Is this normal?? I hope so, because if it heals that way i will be really self conscience, especially because I opted for the armpit incision....
The surgeon has requested that I see him tomorrow, so hopefully I will raise my incision concerns with him....

Re: Infection scare....
Go and order some Tanamu cream hun, one of my scars was quite wonky and ropey feeling just after it had been done, but once I had been given the all clear to start massaging the scar tissue, I used the Tanamu cream on it and all the ropiness has gone, can hardly feel it now and i's very difficult to see.

Re: Infection scare....
Hagendez,
Hey girl. I am glad that you were able to get in quickly. I actually just noticed today that the side of my one areola has a small scab area. It's somewhat raised so I would say it's a bit blister like. I can't see any puss at this point (ewwy).
Do you think it's just healing? I put hydrogen peroxide (recommended as a disinfectant from the nurse) & I take the medication perscibed to fight infection too. I'm not due to see my surgeon unitl this Friday. Should I call & try to see him earlier or do you think it's all part of the healing process?

Glad it all went ok. You're on meds now so don't worry about infection. Did your GP say he'd be in touch with regards the swab he took?

I saw my PS last night, and as it turns out I do have an infection. I was given a list of creams and ointments to buy...to top it off I have got a cough and a fever...
