Bio oil and stretch marks
Just wondering when is the best time to start using bio oil or something similar to avoid stretch marks. I have never had stretch marks but then again I have never really changed in size very quickly so I don't know if I am susceptible to them.
I have heard of people using bio oil but not sure when this starts. I have quite full but little breasts at the moment so I imagine I could quite possibly need to be careful about getting marks.
Any top tips?
Also, where do you get bio oil from and are there better brands/types to get?
Thanks in advance!

Start using it immediately hun, the sooner the better!! And drink lots of water as well to help your skin out. Personally I prefer Palmer's cocoa butter 120% over Bio oil, just because once it's rubbed in it doesn't feel oily at all and it smells like.. well.. cocoa lol. It's lovely. But, I have no idea which works better!!
If your skin hasn't stretched from breastfeeding or anything like that, you might find that you're just a person who is prone to stretch marks anyway, or you might find that you're just really lucky and have no trouble. But drinking lots of water and using your bio-oil from now on won't do any harm at all! (except mabye not to use it on the day of your surgery lol).
You can get Bio-oil from almost any pharmacy... boots, superdrug etc. I don't know if tesco sell it, although I know they do sell cocoa butter. Mothercare might have bio oil as well.. but your best bet is a pharmacy.
Hope that helps!!

Re: Bio oil and stretch marks
I too used Palmer's Cocoa Butter lotion after several girls on here recommended it and I prefer it to Bio-oil also for the same reasons as Lindylou said. My skin was stretched from a A/B cup to a DD/E cup and fortunately no stretch marks.

Re: Bio oil and stretch marks
I used Palmers too from day one (but don't put anything on your scars until you get the go ahead from your PS. I was advised to start using Bio Oil after my scars had closed (6 weeks) and to massage in everyday for a couple of minutes, it's also the act of massaging that helps break down the scar tissue on your scars.
I didn't get any stretchmarks and my scars are healing nicely, just a fine pink line now!! You can buy both from Asda. x

Re: Bio oil and stretch marks
I used both palmers and bio oil (from boots) pre op to get my skin in really good condition for stretching. I would put bio oil on over night after my bath and palmers in the morning after a shower. Post op I just alternated between the two all day as they got very dry and flaky as the skin stretched so much so I took palmers to work with me lol
Re: Bio oil and stretch marks

Yes, it all helps to a very favourable outcome sweetheart and so is well worth doing. Unfortunately it is not something they tell you about at your clinic and why this forum is such an invaluable source of help

Hi I started using bio oil about 5 weeks ago i think. I'm still pre op but have just been rubbin it in daily. I do have a couple of stretchmarks on one boob already from when i was pregnant so im hopin they won't get worse!! As to which is best im unsure, i did use bio oil all over my stomach when preg and got very little marks so hopefully it worked! good luck, not long now for us both xx

I know! It's exciting isn't it! I feel so unprepared for this now. I wonder what else I have forgotten to think of or do!
Re: Bio oil and stretch marks
lol, I advise a dressing gown and definitely stuff that buttons up. Also, I didn't realise before today but if you're planning on wearing your hair up make sure that the band doesn't have any metal in it or they won't let you wear it.
Also, if you've got any little nail scissors or something, you could take those to cut off your little hospital tights (can't remember their name). I found that they were very tight, and I was on my own trying to pull them off which put a fair bit of strain on my chest muscles!!
Can't think of anything else though hun, other that's what's on all of the usual lists!!

Bit like flight socks. Helps prevent DVT. I made a nurse take mine off, I was boiling and couldn't physically stand having them on.
