illness from implants
Just finished watching a documentry on implants and there was alot of women saying they have made them sick and had to have them removed. They said the silocone implants have platnim in them that can make people sick. I was just wondering if anyone here has known anyone with these problems. I am getting the "gummy bear" implants over the muscle. This show also said that all implants get hard over time from scar tissue. I really do not want rock hard boobs. I was also wondering if anyone here had the gummy bear implants placed over the muscle and if you were happy with the way they look and feel.????
I just have over a week to go and I am getting more scared. March 8th will be here soon.

Re: illness from implants
Not sure about platinum in implants but I have cohesive gel (gummy bear) implants over the muscle and am happy with the look and feel of them. There is always a risk of capsular contracture (scar tissue forming around the implant) but that's a risk everyone takes. As far as I know, a capsule forms around every implant but most of the time it does not cause CC, or any problem.

Hi honey,
my first piece of advice would be to avoid scary documentaries about boobies this close to your op..you don't need any scarmongering to make you panic! I had gummy bear cohesive gel overs (placed under the thin fascia but over muscle) and they feel fine. They are quite firm but that's because they're new and haven't settled yet, once the skin stretches they become softer. All implants are very firm at first as they take a few weeks to settle into place. My surgeon is one if the top 10 in the country (so I'm told..) and he says he wouldn't use anything else. I had Mentor high profile cohesive gel implants.

Yeah please try to ignore everything you've seen/read that's negative honey, it will just make you more nervous. Remember - If they were that dangerous then they simply would be allowed to perform BAs at all.
Janeybird - just read your stats and seeing your avatar has made me feel great - I'm having terrible boob envy after having my BA 10 days ago, 32a cup with 275cc, not sure what size I am now but I still feel really small! I see your 260's have taken you to a 30dd and your size looks great!

I have the "gummy bear" implants I chose ones that were FDA approved as I figured silicone implants had been closely monitored and scrutinised in the US more so than here in the UK. They are also textured which is said to lessen the chance of getting Capsule Contracture. I am very happy with the feel of them and how they have settled.
Like Kittie says all implants get a capsule around them its the bodies natural reaction to encase a foreign body but in most cases it doesn't lead to CC.
If you look at any operation you are going to get cases where they have complications but out of all the breast augmentations performed these are a minority but it wouldn't make good television to show all the normal operations that occur would it.
I would do as the other girls have said and steer clear of such programmes as they will do nothing but increase your nerves. I'm not saying don't take possible complications seriously they should factor into everyones decision
but if you have done your research then you will have thought about this previously and decided to go ahead anyway.
Good luck and remember its completely natural to be nervous but just remember why you want the op in hte first place and I'm sure you will be back on here in no time thrilled with your results. : )

Re: illness from implants
I have 'gummy bear' over the muscle. Capsular contracture does happen with some women but is not a majority and as little one said, most have a textured outer surface to reduce the possiblity of this happening. With all implants, as far as i know, a scar capsule is created (naturally) to hold the implant, but this is not capsular contracture.
Even though i can feel the implants, a kind of pressure when i push on them, they are very soft and very natural looking.
I read a terrible article before my operation, they do focus on all the bad to make it interesting. Complications are a possiblility and should be taken into consideration, but it doesnt happen very often. It is scary, but as your only a week away, concentrate on making sure you are healthy and prepared.
I have had two ops now, and both were good experiences, so i hope you have the same.
Best of luck xx
