hello i'm new... i got seroma :(
hi ladies,
I'm new to this site but was wondering if people can help?
I will tell you my story.....
Had my boob job on 25th feb, 340 partial unders- everything was perfect and boobs were settling well and I loved them!!
However last week, i woke up one morning and my vest top was covered in fluid! I woke my boyfriend up and bless his cotton socks hecalled the emergency number straight away. We checked and the fluid was coming out my left boob from the scar (under breast incision)- it was dripping pretty fast all down my stomach and legs.
We went to the see the surgeon and he said i had seroma which is just one of those unfortuante things- basically the fluid had built up so much prssure it ruptured my scar as the skin was thin. He suggested stitching it up and hopefully my body will re-absorb it.... anyway got stiched up (the scar bursted near the end) and went home.
My breast started tingling again that night and feeling really painful like lots of prssure... so my boyfriend decided to check the scar again... the fluid had built up and had bursted again abit further along the scar- about 2mm where he stictchedc me up. I was devasted.... :pale:
We went back to the clinic again first thing in morning and my orignal surgeon wasnt in so i saw dr HxXXX (not sure if can say surgeon names on here?). He decided to take the stiches out and let me drain naturally and monitor me. So thats what we did.... nothing came out at first when he took the stiches out but then i went toilet and the fluid just came pouring out!!! I was crying as it was so so scary seeing all this flid come out. Anyway dr H- was brilliant.. he monitored me for 6 hours and when he did his final check he said he could see my implant just slightly visible through the scar- so he took me straight back to into theatre to drain , clean and then inserted a new implant. He tripled 'layered' my scar to make it sronger as he said i was slim and had thin skin. He put drains in me and even came in on his day off to check i was ok. I stayed overnight and he decided to send me home but to keep the drains in for 2 days to see if more fluid build up... Had drain taken out yesterday and TOUCH WOOD i' seem fairly stable.
I'm so so so scared ladies that its going to come back. Worse scenario would be my body builds up fluid again and dr h said he will take implant out till my body heals... I'm so worried ladies- I went through so much to get to this point and now its like it cold all go wrong...
I trying so hard not to do anything with my left side (i'm left handed and it was my left boob). But i was wondering if anyone on here has had seroma or knows of ways that can reduce it happening again? I read that compressing with warm towel helps but i'm scared to try it just incase it makes it worse!!!
Thank you ladies for listening and sorry it goes on abit.!!!Any advice comments appreciated xx

Re: hello i'm new... i got seroma :(
Welcome to the site Sorry you've had this complication hun, sounds like the surgeon really took care of you and leaving drains in for a bit longer sounds like a good idea. Did he give you antibiotics at all? I just found this questions asked by a girl in a similar situation and the doctor's answer is quite useful:

Oh you poor thing! Having to go through all that, but how sweet was your boyfriend.
We have a lovely girlie on her who had a haematoma, I'm sure you've seen her story in the story section (If not click here lovely: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]) She's been so brave, and has been through so much. I really hope it doesn't get any worse, but if it does you know you'll have support here.
Try and rest up loads and follow the advice your surgeon gave, it must be so scary, but things will turn out ok.
We're all here for you with any questions you have (or if ya just wanna rant!)

Aw I really felt for you reading this!!! I have no experience of this, but I am sure if anyone of the girls has they will help and assist as much as they can. The surgeon seems to have given you good care and your boyfriend, which must be a great comfort to you. I do hope you heal well and get past this soon. Thinking of you xx

Hiya
welcome to BJS.
It really sounds like the surgeon did everything possible to rectify your problem and considering you were not his patient he was very conscientous -you picked a good company. I dont think there is anything we can do to prevent such complications unfortunatley .
Im sure you will recover well from this and the law of averages says the rest of your healing will be problem free.

oh babe that's just c**p for you. Like all the others say it sounds like your boyf and surgeon have been great and fingers crossed all should be fine now. Did the surgeon say what the chances are of it happening again?
Try not to stress out too much - I know its easier said than done, but I had to say it.
Take care xx

Hi hun, I have my fingers crossed for you as well... It must have been really scary, poor you. It sounds like you are in good hands and that the surgeon took care of you and is really trying to do the best thing for you, unfortunately these things happen and sometimes there is no way to prevent it, it's just how your body reacts. I feel confident that you will recover completely soon xxxx

Re: hello i'm new... i got seroma :(
Aw Hun, i totally know how worried you must be now, you have been through a terrible time and the thought of what may happen next is a terrifying one i so know how that feels.
I Had to have my right implant removed as I had a haematoma which also burst through my scar, despite this being dealt with and all seemingly going well i lost my implant at 10 weeks due to deep chronic infection which had caused my body to begin to expel the implant through my scar. I was horrified and can imagine how you are feeling now at the prospect this is what's going to happen to you next.
It does sound like you are being looked after well both with support at home and from the surgeon which is great.
My advice to you at this stage is if your scar is at all open then you must do all you can to prevent any infection so follow your surgeons instructions carefully with regards to this.
All being well the seroma will not return and you will heal up nicely but if not then we are all here for you every step of the way sweetheart, please don't feel alone and let us know how things are going.
Another good idea is to ask RoxyChick to open a diary for you so you can put down your daily changes, i have one and this has helped me immensely and i can refer to it when things are tough to get reassurance from the girls.
My heart goes out to you hunni and i'm thinking of you and wishing you luck xx

my scar is still covered up at moment and i beleive dr H has bbasically tripled layered my scar (if that makes sense) to reduce chance of it bursting open again. fingers and toes crossed xxx
thank you girls all again...

Hey Hunni
Sorry that you've had to go through this. It sounds like the surgeon has really taken care of you. And keeping the drains in for two days would have highlighted any early problems. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll be OK now.

Re: hello i'm new... i got seroma :(
hi ladies,
well the next exciting chapter so far is i managed to have a shower and wash my hair!!!! I even tried and did a circular massage on my left one to encourage drainage!Plus the boyf also changed my dressing for me. Romance is truly not dead!
Bit sore this morning like a tingly sensation but i'm hoping its just my muscles being disturbed.
Shootingstar- you are right- humour is the best way to go forward. I shall be reading up my daily jokes now lol. Hope you ok today too?
Thank you again to more people who wrote- I really appreciate the fact that people take 2 minutes out their day to cheer me up. Sometimes you feel daft talking about your boob constantly- especially my boyf is practically 'boobed' out now with my stories- so i glad i found this forum.xx
