Some people just have to comment
Hi everyone,
I've never been one for chatting on forums but still come on here to read everyone's stories and tips even if it as been over a year since my operation. But today I have my own little story and thought here would be the only place I would know people who would appreciate today.
Today I had to go for my annual heart scan (nothing major just a precaution thing, that runs in the family). My cardiologist told me to tell the radiographer that I'd had my implants. Which I did, after about 10mins of lieing on my side with the radiographer doing my ultra sound, she suddenly pipes up "implants are the bane of our lives and make our jobs so hard". Next thing I knew she said she'd finished. I looked at the clock while I was getting dress and sarcastically said to the radiographer " that's the quickest its ever been done, (which it had)did the PS leave instructions where to point the ultra sound on my implant?" lets just say she didn't crack a smile and walked out slamming the door.

Cheeky mare! While what she said is true, implants do make it much harder to do Echo's( I assume thats what you had yes?) she has absolutley no right to say that to you! Its also difficult to scan someone who is overweight but i doubt she'd say to them 'Fat people are the bane of my life!' What a rude cow!! Grrrr!
Anyways babe, stick a complaint in if you feel its necessary! She was probs just jealous anyways haha! xx

Honestly sometimes medical professionals have no idea! I rang my local birthing centre yesterday as I was worried about feeling reduced movements from my baby, the MW was so bloody rude, she made me feel so stupid for calling that I put the phone down and cried! (Movements picked up now so nothing to worry about by the way girls). I think they sometimes forget their bedside manner. x

Sorry guna hijack the thread for a sec here.. Jessica, how bloody dare she make you feel that way!! I am so frustrated for you! If you are in anyway concerned for yourself or your baby go straight down to Maternity. Do not let anyone make you feel like your own instincts are inferior or wrong! A very dear friend of mine suffered a terrible loss at 36weeks after being brushed off by a midwife and i vowed never to keep my mouth shut about such a taboo subject again. I dont mean to scare you huni, far far from it. But please just go with what your body tells you and stuff other people! Who cares if the midwife is rude, tell her to go **** herself lol!! xx

Now that needs a complaint!!! Don't ever be fobbed off with movement concerns...it's the best way to monitor baby wellbeing. Also not wanting to scare you but there have been incidents recently of reduced movements not being taken seriously and the outcome was not good. I take it very seriously. Next time if you get fobbed off just say you're going in anyway and take the mw name.
Anyway sorry to hyjack...
Pipple that's a totall disgrace and I would put a complaint in otherwise she wont change. Plus you need to find out if the scan was done fully as you say it was the quickest you've had.
Don't be made to feel guilty hun, you made a choice, it's improved your life and she's a crabby jealous cowbag!!

That's a shocking way for her to speak to you pipple. I'd definitely complain.
Jess - never let anyone make you feel your instincts or worries are wrong. If you feel there's something you need checked then get it checked. Always better to put your mind at rest

Re: Some people just have to comment
I would complain, but the PALS department for my local hospital is a waste of space. I've complained before to them, only to never hear back.
I'm definately going to call the consultant next week to see if it was ok, cause I don't see her a few months. I have made a note on the letter to tell her about the radiographers attitude. My consultant was spoken to about me having the operation, if she wasn't happy I wouldn't have had it done, she was admiring them last time I saw her.
Thanks everyone, knew I would get support from here.

You can complain to the chief exec directly, they have a duty to investigate and reply within a certain amount of time. The website for your local hospital should have the name and address.

Pipple - You poor thing hun. The radiographer was just plain rude! I've had heart scans babe and no-one has ever treated me like that.
I'd complain for sure hun. You shouldn't be made to feel it's your fault the radiographer might have problems. That's not your fault at all.
Jessica - If you're ever worried about your babys movements again hun then just go to the hospital and get checked out. My eldest had to be born 3 weeks early due to him not moving, it only took a few minutes on a monitor for them to realise he was in distress and had to come out. I was told it was a good job I'd gone in... I believe in a mothers instinct hunni, if you're concerned, get it checked out babe. xxx

Pipple thats just plan rude, miserable cow Littlewishers right she just jealous because you have a lovely pair of boobs!
Jessica, that MW should be shot!! I was told if i was worried about movement to drink ice cold water and it makes them wriggle. I wouldn't swear by it but it did work a few times. It's like having cold water poured down your back.

Pipple and Jess - you should both complain. I work in the NHS and there is a duty for them to investigate and reply to you within a certain timescale.
Jess - a mother's instinct should always be trusted hun. You know what's going on in there better than anyone. I was also given the advice of an ice cold drink to get baby moving when I had a scare of no movement.

Thanks girls - sorry pipple, didn't mean to hijack your thread!
Bubs is totally back to normal now thankfully, I think it was just a quiet day for baby on Sunday but she did make me feel like an idiot (luckily it wasn't my MW who is lovely!)
I would put in a formal complaint hun, or at least write a strongly worded letter and wait for an apology, I didn't think about jealousy when I read your post pipple, but I'm thinking now that's probably what it was!

Pipple, definitely jealous ... when she lies on her side her boobies probably lay flat on the bed next to her like a couple of limp lettuces!!!
Jessica, glad to hear everything is ok with baby now ... my waters broke at 31 weeks, my midwife told me to get straight to the hospital but when I was there the nurses tried to convince me that I had actually wet myself (I know I was pregnant but even I could tell the difference between broken waters and a weak bladder!) ... my son was born an hour later (he's now seven and no-one would be able to tell that he was nine weeks premature). Mother's instinct goes a long way xx

Re: Some people just have to comment
Unbelievable they told you you'd wet yourself frocky!
I think sometimes, some midwifes forget that just because they've been delivering babies for years and years and have probably seen everything, that the women they're dealing with are often very worried and frightened and need reassurance even if the MW's think they're worrying over nothing. Not all midwifes are like that though, because I know my MW would have been lovely if she'd picked up the phone. I just felt on that particular day I needed reassurance and I got made to feel like I was bothering her and that if I had gone in I would have been wasting their time. All the other midwifes I've ever come across have been so lovely though so it must have been a one off.
Pipple - been thinking about this, and I think there's absolutely no reason for that nurse to direct a personal comment at you - I know she probably felt she was just generally musing about implants in general, but in a way she was having a dig at your decision to have implants which is unprofessional and unnecessary. xx
