Post by tabbycat 29th September 2010, 2:05 pm

Thankfully apparently I am healing like I should. However the nurse showed me my scars and I think it really hit home to me. Its only the first 10 days, I know, but I went into shock. I felt like I was going to faint and when I left I had to throw up in the clinic toilets and burst into tears.

Because of me trying to keep it together in the office I didn't ask as many questions as I should have. She said I am not to breast massage till week four. Also, no underwire till 3 months? Is this right? And when I shower I am not to touch my boobs! How long am i not allowed to touch for? Bloody fed up. And one is still pointy! :(

aww the scars will fade.
I don't know anything about massage, I wasn't told anything and I didn't ask, I just assumed I didn't need to.
I *think* I'm not allowed underwire till 3 months either? Not sure but I'm definately in my sports bra til my 6 week check with the surgeon.

I was told after my 1 week check up that I could have baths and showers normally I just have to dry the strip that's over the scars with a hairdryer afterwards.
You can always phone them and ask these things now xx

Yes the time given for you is 3 months so that is what you should stick to (some are 6 weeks). We all get different advice so you should follow what your surgeon/nurse tells you to do. The time really does fly by. If you are unsure of anything you can always give the clinic a ring and ask, I'm sure they wont mind. As for your scars, they do fade and heal quite quickly. Plus the pointy boob will change, just give it a bit more time, you are very early days and have lots of changes to go through in the up and coming weeks and months.

Yes, 3 months is correct, i have invested in a couple of really good shock absorber sports bras which look really good in clothes to make me feel a bit better, and i will then wear them after when i excersise.

After my first op i couldnt shower properly for a couple of weeks because of the scars.

And try not to worry about the pointyness, mine were pointy for a good month and even after 3 months still had some dropping to do, they will get better and continue changing for a while yet. If you are still concerned by your 6 week appointment just ask your surgeon.

It is hard at first as we all want them to be perfect straight away, just remember you have had a big operation and your body needs time to adjust, be good to it and be patient, your boobies will reward you in the end Hug xx

Tabbycat, calm down and make another appointment with your nurse. You've paid enough for this, another appointment is nothing to ask for. I'm not looking forward to seeing my scars either, I think it'll knock me a little sick too. Did it just hit you like 'OMG I've been sliced open!'?
Get used to your scars, and give your clinic a ring sweetie xxx

arrr sweetie the scars will fade in time & your best not to touch the scars till they are fully healed. As for massage I was told i could do this after my 6 week check up but you will have to ring your nurse & find out as it could be different for you.
& i was told i could also wear bras durring the day from 6 weeks but all P.S advise is different so its down to there personal choice which he has decide 3 months. If your not happy about not wearing bras then you could ring you company & see why he has said 3 months.........it it was me id like to know why, but i Know its not unusal.

dont panic sweetie just list all your Q and give you company you had your op with a ring & im sure they will be happy to help you

I'd give the clinic a ring sweetie I called my nurse a couple of times with questions I had forgotten to ask. Thats what they are there for hun. Write down what you want to ask them before you call that way you won't forget or get sidetracked. As for the scars they are a bit gross at first but give it another week and you will be stunned at the improvements xx
