What are capsules/capsular?
Hi girls ...I was reading Vix's post regarding pip implant re-op. She said "no capsules were removed"...what is this? I have ruptured pips and am due for re-op in january. At my consultation mr liew said i had capsular on the breast with the confirmed rupture, it looks like a ridge that runs along the underside of my boob near the under crease...the same appearance has now developed over the last 4 week on the other boob with suspected rupture. What is it?...when it was metioned by mr liew i presumed he meant capsular contracture...x

Re: What are capsules/capsular?
Scar tissue which forms around the implant, for capsular contracture to occur the scar tissue becomes hard the harder the scar tissue the worse grade of CC you have, it can on occasions cause pain and disformity of the implant
Re: What are capsules/capsular?
Thanks for the reply misf1...sooooo...capsules/capsular contracture are the same thing? I havnt got any hardening of my breast at all, and i dont have any pain or discomfort. Do you think this has been caused due to the ruptures? Im not stressing over it because they are being replaced anyway, im just curious...x

Re: What are capsules/capsular?
Due to the rupture of the implant there is a good possibilty that the capsule surrounding the implant has thickened, if this has happened you will need to have a capsulectomy to repair the breast and clean it out before replacing with new implants.
You can read about the capsulectomy procedure HERE

Re: What are capsules/capsular?
There are 4 grades of CC
•Grade I: the breast is soft and looks natural
•Grade II: the breast is slightly firm, but looks normal
•Grade III: the breast is firm and looks abnormal
•Grade IV: the breast is hard, painful, and looks abnormal
It could be due to the rupture, it could be your body will try to protect itself by forming thick scar tissue around the ruptured implant

Re: What are capsules/capsular?
Hi Sharon,
I didnt have any hardening or pain, just a bit of an ache sometimes, and it was really soft like a natural boob. Have you got your op booked yet? I hope you can get it sorted out soon. Good luck xx
