I'm on my tod whilst recovering!!
Hi all
My BA is next Saturday and my OH can't get any time off work & to add insult to injury, I don’t have any family here as I’m from South Africa.
My question is: Did anyone else have no one there in their first few days after surgery and was it manageable to make a cuppa or a bite to eat? :mornincoffee:
Luckily I have no kiddies to look after but I do have a 1 year old pug who likes to jump all over the place & I'm worried I can’t control her & she jumps on my new boobies while I am sitting watching telly.

Eek DaisyDuke,
If youre having your BA on the Sat then you'll have your OH with you on the Sat night and the Sunday yes? (hope so)
Are you having overs or unders? as you can do less with your arms if having unders

Re: I'm on my tod whilst recovering!!
Hi daisyDuke, My OH worked whilst im still recovering as well, but I was fine. Spent most of my 1st week in bed chilling/trying to sleep. Managed a couple walks into town in that insane heat but i did have my parents on standby if i needed them (still live at home!)
I was able to make lunch fine and managed to cook dinner from scratch on my 5th day, just keep up with your meds and painkillers and you'll be able to get through it :)

Hi Janeybird - I'm having unders & will have to stay overnight at hospital. My OH will come fetch me on Sunday. It's during the week I'm worried about.
Hi Kazaa - thanks for the advice - wish I could say I was enjoying the heat but Scotland aint seen any of it. Suppose I should be hoping for the bad weather to stick around to aid in my recovery!! My luck a heat wave will begin the day after surgery

I could use my arms but i struggled to reach things high up in cupboards and stuff I think that if you HAVE to cope on your own then you just do but if youve got someone there doing everything for you then you just dont bother trying ha ha ha that is definately what i did thought i deserved a week of my boyfriend looking after me A friend of mine had hers done and was on her own totally (before i met her) she said she just stayed in bed and slid out to the toilet ha ha ha
Just make sure you stay on top of your meds and try not to do TOO much

Thanks J, will make sure I rest and take my meds. Also think I will put all the junk food in the top cupboard to I don't eat crap whilst recovering, especially when & if I hit the post op blues

Re: I'm on my tod whilst recovering!!
Hey,
Personally I have been fine- woohoo!
I am on my own alot, have a 3 and a half year old too and havent had any problems. My parents are helpful and visit to make my dinner etc, take the little one but in all honesty I expected to be worse. I came home from hospital and made lunch, made lots of tea, had a shallow bath etc and have been fine. Going to make lunch just now infact. I actually have to stop myself doing too much as I am feeling good.
ps I got into trouble a little in hosp for being outta my bed LOL The nurses came in the night of my BA and I was sitting in the chair sending emails from my phone. Don't think they were too amused when I said if I stayed in bed I wouldn't be able to reach my phone on charge. Think they gave me some honesty pills too coz I can't blv I said that!! Least I said it with a smile, in no way was I trying to be wide!

Dee - I am totally keeping my fingers crossed that I'm as lucky as you then.
Very funny with the "honesty pills" I know I will cry when I wake up - done it twice before after minor surgery, feel so stupid doing it but it comes from nowhere.

Haha wish I'd cried, I think I just kept talking and thanking them for wakening me as I'd been terrified of the GA.

Re: I'm on my tod whilst recovering!!
As long as you get yourself as prepared as possible pre-op, you should be fine babe.
I'd advice cooking and freezing meals now ready for you post-op. Each day before your OH leaves, ensure he gets everything you might need and put it within reach for you, stock up on DVDs and good books to relieve the boredom and you'll do just fine letting the dog out and making a cuppa, just be sure to only fill the kettle with a little water at a time, you be surprised by how weak you are at first.

yeah what is with natalie rooney - she is totally crazy!! I couldnt believe she was partying 2 days after her op & what about when she was in recovery and the first thing she said was "they are not big enough". I am worried I can't make myself a cuppa and she is out getting lip filler and out till 5am - what a silly-silly girl.

Cookie thanks for the advice - I have a heavy steal hob kettle, even filled for 1 cup its heavy. I (meaning the OH) will have to dig the old plastic kettle out from the loft on the weekend.
Also been practising my bum shuffle & training the tummy muscles in prep for getting out of bed
