Just found oiut that i have PIP implants!
I only recently discovered that there was an issue with PIP implants and that i have them. I had my op in January 09 with HMG. I have contacted them and they said that it was ok if i had no symptoms and not to worry about it. I have booked a scan for Monday morning at a cost of £300! just to put my mind at rest that they are not ruptured. Should i be getting them changed?? i dont know what to do!

Re: Just found oiut that i have PIP implants!
Firstly welcome to BJSF Georgie
It continuously shocks me to read the lack of help and understanding from the clinics that implanted PIPs and I'm sorry to you're read you're left in this position hun.
It's great that you're having a scan. BAAPS have issued a release dated June 18th stating -

I personally believe the clinics should be providing these scans, but it's just not happening, did you approach your GP Georgie?
The thing about PIPs is that even if you get a good scan result to say all is fine with your PIPs, chances are they could rupture at 'any' time so it would be safe to have yearly scans if you intended on keeping them.
If you are in a position to though Georgie, I would have them replaced as soon as you can babe. But that's just my opinion. xxx

new safety recommendations to the UK public such as a call for
all women who have PIP implants to undergo an ultrasound scan in the
next six months, to determine whether there is any rupture or weakening.

Re: Just found oiut that i have PIP implants!
Thankyou for the welcome. I was soooo pleased when i found this site, its great to be able to see how others are dealing with this situation.
I havent been to my GP as i have no symptoms, i just read an article in a magazine on Tuesday and it said about PIP implants. I thought the quicker i got a scan the better i might feel about it, so its booked for Monday morning! If i have a rupture then HMG said that they will replace them free of charge but if not then i would have to fund them myself and they want £5500! I think that i will have to go elsewhere to have them done in that case. Any suggestions for the best place to go would be appreciated.xx

£5500?!?!?! That's quite steep!
Sorry to hear you're a fellow PiP girlie. Hope your scan goes well and let us know what they find (or don't!).

£5,500! I'd tell them to stick that where the sun don't shine babe!
Definately shop around. I know MyBreast are offering free Nagor replacement implants to anyone with PIPs wanting a replacement, so you will only be quoted for surgeon and hospital costs hun. You may find other companies will do the same too. xx

You can post the name of the firm here if you like lovely, the more people that know they can get representation the better the chances they'll get a replacement free of charge.
