Question for the Mumma's.... Empty Question for the Mumma's....

Post by miss.renee 8th July 2010, 9:29 am

Until I started reading this forum I think I have underestimated how long & hard the recovery process after BA is.

I have 2 children the youngest is 17 months... Anyway my question is to the Mums on here how hard was it to look after the kids & how long did you need someone to help out?
My partner works away so is not around to help so my Mum will be taking them for a couple of days.. will that be enough?

eek!! I haven't really considered this...I have been too caught up in the excitement of finally getting my boobs sorted. I have a 2 year old and a 5 month old baby who is very demanding! I recall from my first BA 13 years ago (didn't have kids) I managed to move around fairly well 2-3 days after the op I did take a stroll into town with my then partner, it felt VERY tight and bruised but I was 18 so had never experienced anything quite like it! I know that I struggled to wash my hair and even brush it...but after a week I was a lot more flexible! My PC has advised NOT to pick the babies up for a couple of weeks and when I do to go extremely careful so not to split the stitches.........!!

i had alot of help from hubby and older children, i needed people to get them to and from school for me as i couldent drive for 2wks, i couldent even get myself dressed let alone the kids, you will need as much help as you can get, you cant lift your kids,
the first few days you will just want to sleep,
i didint like the kids jumping on me in case they knocked my boobies, so told them i had a sore tummy and they cuddled me from behind,

Hey, My daughter is 5 and I stopped with my mum and dad for 3 days. In all honesty i wouldn't have wanted to cope by myself at all. My husband looked after her and has kept on top of the house - for the first time in our marriage might i add!! I would see how long you can have the help for as you will be tired and sore. Good luck!! xoxxo

Question for the Mumma's.... Empty Re: Question for the Mumma's....

Post by Stephy x 8th July 2010, 6:22 pm

At the time of my BA my little one was 10 months old. I was told no lifting for 2 weeks. I had help from MIL for the first 1.5 weeks & DH when he was home from work. At 1.5 weeks i started to do things for myself. I worked out how to lift him without causing too much stress on my boobs. Even though i did lift i was worried as you get told 2 weeks for a reason, you need you boobies to settle properly, why risk damaging them?? they cost a ruddy fortune....lol.

Anyway....remember everyone heals differently, one person may not hurt at a few days post op yet the next might still be in pain 2 weeks later x

I've been worrying about this too - I have 15 month old twins. I'm having my surgery on a saturday, home on sunday, mum watching the twins on monday and wednesday (at my house) and the in-laws taking them on the tuesday. Hubby having the thursday and friday off and he'll be with me all weekend again. I'll be on my own with them for the first time the following Thursday, so that's 12 days after surgery... I'm hoping that's enough time.

just invest in a telletubbies dvd ladies. that should keep the little ones occupied. no, seriously, i hope you get sorted. you don't want to be over doing things. i'm lucky, i have a 13 year old, and i'm hoping she'll be looking after me!! my BA in the school holidays, so at least i wont have to drive to do the school run.

aww all these twins mums lol.. i too have 1 year twins and a 2 half year old and have found it hard to just move let alone do anything with them. i had op last tuesday 600cc under muscle and im still killing. we didnt come home from brussels till friday and my sis has been here with me doing everything basically. also i was under impression i wasnt to lift or do anything strenuous for weeks after as can ruin boobs and not to lift arms up r anything but not sure how long your suppoed to carry oin like this,?? does anyone know?? some1 i know got her boobs done on nhs at xmas but now has to have them re done as she picked her baby up too soon after and was always carrying her around and her implant has like fell down so looks awfull so im being extra precausious as dont want to have to go through this again lol.
im starting to now be able to do small things but ive also had thigh lift at same time so i am finding it extra sore everywhere and hard to move lol
good luck hun

Question for the Mumma's.... Empty Re: Question for the Mumma's....

Post by Becstarr 12th July 2010, 6:32 am

I've got a 2 year old as well. The first few days that I was home my mum came over to help out & I had my husband doing most stuff when he got home.

The worst thing is that you can't lift them or cuddle them. I held off completely for 2 weeks but after that I couldn't not especially since we were toilet training!! My PS told me 6 weeks but I just couldn't not.

There's no way I could have gone out and pushed the pram. I think I tried to walk up to the park 3 weeks post op and it killed me. Had to get my husband to drive up and pick me up.

I think you'll need more help than just a couple of days, IMO.

Good luck

Post by abbie 12th July 2010, 7:01 am

ive got a 9 year old, a 3 year old and a 2 year old. Ive specifically booked my BA for the beginning of the summer holidays so I dont have to do the school run for 6 weeks or even go out unless i feel up to it.
I get my operation on a thursday so dp is taking that day off, but then working from home on the friday and for the next week afterwards, so with the weekends included I should have 10 days of help. Ive also got my best friend just down the street who will help a bit after that, and I think my mum will help too, although she works, so not sure how much.
Hopefully i'll be able to manage with that

None of the mums managed fine 'on their own' Sarah and to be honest and I dont hesitate at all in saying this, you won't manage a 4,2 and 1 year old at all on your own, so sweetheart, for your childrens saftey and your own, you're going to have to sort some kind of care out to help you with your children.

For the first week you will fall asleep at the drop of a hat! You will have no upper body strength to enable you to lift your babies, it's possible you could be ill as a side effect from the GA and you're possibly going to be in a lot of discomfort. You are going to need help with your babies for the first week for sure Sarah, after that 'IF' you're feeling up to it, you should be up to to doing little bits and building up slowly, you'll still need help but hopefully not full time by then. xx
