Are we increasing our risk of breast cancer? Empty Are we increasing our risk of breast cancer?

I just read a rather nasty article about "fake" breasts and one of the negative points raised was that it increases the risk of dying from cancer because the implant hides cancer from tests. I have subfascial implants so I was told it wouldn't interfere with screening or increase my risk of cancer. Of that was the case I wouldn't ever have had it done

My surgeon is the head of Breast Risk Prevention at The Christie Hospital and this was a huge question of mine as my mum has had breast cancer.
He assured me that he would NOT do BA's for cosmetic purposes if it heightened the risk of people contracting breast cancer or reduced the detection of it as if totally contradicts his "day job"
When you go for a mammogram you need to make them aware of your implants and they use a different technique.
Hope that's reassured you xx

My surgeon also reassured me exactly the same as [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] just wrote. You just need to make them aware so they may screen you a little differently that's all xxx

Absolutely not. It's inflammatory media which is just perpetuating the taboo of the boob job. Do you really think if there was any possibility of 'increasing the risk of cancer' that any surgeon, baaps or not, would approve of the procedure? It's utter rubbish. Yes you need to mention them at a mammogram, and yes, any biopsy has to be a bit more precise to avoid the implant. But they won't hide anything, your body would still kick out symptoms that would call for thorough investigation.

Agreed! Implants wouldn't be approved if that were the case!

I have mammograms every year and have never had a problem with them. They just give you information regarding doing the screening slightly different but I have been told by each lady that it really makes no difference, so no more worrying x

My surgeon specialises in cases of breast cancer. Mastectomy and reconstruction. He assured me that I was at no higher risk because of my implants x
