Wound care appt cancelled......
Hello girls.
I was en-route to my 7 day wound check and I received a phonecall from the clinic to state that nurse is unwell. The receptionist was lovely and said they recognised how important my appointment was and that they will try to get another nurse in this afternoon. She said she'd phone me to let me know.
So I'm home and waiting for the call.
My question for you guys is how vital is it that the appointment happens day 7 or as near to as possible? Today is already one day later than I should have been seen. I was told someone would contact me with an appointment - when I hadn't heard by Monday I called them and they were already fully booked for yesterday (when my 1st wound care appt should have been scheduled) so they booked me in for today instead.
I'm wanting to know how much of a fuss should I be making if I cannot be seen today and should I offer to drive to Dolan Park to be seen (Dolan Park is probably a 6 hour round journey from my house).
Thanks guys,
Zoe xxx

Re: Wound care appt cancelled......
You're fine Zoe. Wound checks can be done anything up to 2 weeks post-op, so don't worry lovely, if you're not seen today I'm sure they'll get you in as soon as possible babe. Xx
Re: Wound care appt cancelled......
Don't worry, you don't need to do a 6 hour drive!! :) Post op checks vary so as long as you see someone soon I wouldn't worry to much, hopefully they will still fit you in today :) xx

Cookie, Jennifer
Thank you both. You have really put my mind at rest :)
I will relax and just hope (for my own curiosity of wanting to see under the dressings) that I can be seen today. If not I'm sure they will fit me in tomorrow or Monday.

Re: Wound care appt cancelled......
Hey Zoe, the precise date isn't too important at all, I did my second week appt one day early and my four week appt is actually going to be at five weeks as work commitments meant five weeks worked better. Hope it all goes well at 3.30 for you! Xx

sorry not to have updated you guys before now
Hello all,
Thank you for thinking of me - much appreciated .
I had intended to update much sooner but my mum called as soon as I got home from my appointment and invited hubby and I out for dinner. My mum is gravely ill (terminal cancer) and her 'good days' where she can do such things are to be seized with both hands and enjoyed. We had a lovely meal with her and my dad at a fabulous italian restaurant overlooking the sea :)
Anyway.....
Appointment went well.
Lovely nurse. Removed all dressings and steri-strips. Then put new steri-strips on but no dressings.
I was - or so I thought - fully prepared to see a 'car crash' but my first sight of my breasts (when she had removed the steri-strips) was a bit shocking. Internally I had an "oh my god what have I done" moment.
I have lots of bruising and some seriously impressive wounds
I'm about to update my blog with the pics so have a look if you are interested.
By the time I got home and looked in the mirror what I saw was much less horrific. I have a lot of healing to do but I can - I think - see past the wounds and bruising to what my breasts will eventually look like..........
I'll pop back later - just off to update blog.

You have a sensible attitude babe and its that that will get you through...
It is scary seeing uplift scars for the first time, no matter how prepared you might think you are... But they do get better and this time time next year - you'll barely notice them at all! Xx

Re: Wound care appt cancelled......
Just bobbed on to your blog and saw the pics sweetie...
Zoe... I think you are so brave, as too are the other girls on here who have gone through the exact same procedure, and those that are waiting. I bet you are glad the first reveal is finally done and dusted and you can now look forward to your boobies healing sweetie...
I don't know (if/when my time comes) if I would be able to look. I think I would have to wait tbh - coward I know ha....x

Hi Zoe
So glad to know it all went well. I saw from your blog that the look of your scars and bruising is very similar to mine (except I don't have the vertical incision). I call it the jaundiced panda eyes look lolol
Looking wonderful anyway
Sam xx

Thankies Lovely
Roll on this time next year when they are barely noticeable .
Actually - don't do that as I would be effectively wishing away the last months of my 30's!!!

I just had a look at your blog too, it's great! Your scars I imagine did seem scary to look at but keep taking it easy :) they will get better and hopefully fade to nothing!!

Aww you are lovely x
I'm not sure "brave" is the word - "naive" maybe. If I could rewind time I probably wouldn't look via a photo whilst I was still laying on the bed!
It is a good 'benchmark' I guess - it's got to get better from here on in (I hope at least - I'm not sure I could handle an "uglier' image in my head !!!)

Hey Sam :)
Jaundiced Panda eyes - I like it!! Good to know my scars/bruising similar to yours too - thanks lovely
I'm sitting here concentrating hard on healing. I have no actual 'evidence' that will have any impact on the speed with which I heal but.......
I hope you are healing well too Lovely,
Zoe xx

Hey Jennifer :)
Just a tad scary ; but the initial shock has work off and I'm seeing beyond the horror to the impressive bit of construction Mr Russo has done there
My mum is indeed amazing - it's tragic that she is dying (and so young - she is only 59) but the fact that she is hasn't half given me the opportunity to appreciate her and to let her know just how much .
Thanks Lovely .

Oh my - I wouldn't have wanted to make you (or anyone else) cry
There'll be plenty of time for me to grieve when my mum is gone. For now I am appreciating every single moment with her. The moments, conversations and laughter we've shared in the past few months will be with me forever
Enjoy your mum my Lovely - you are so right they are precious (well most are...)
