Allergy to dissolvable stitches
Well after a lot of pain, seeing my GP, clinic nurse and surgeon they are all now in agreement that I have an allergy to dissolvable stitches .
My body is just rejecting them as they have before. I was at a total loss to why this was happening. I'm eating well and following instruction to the letter and this should have gone smoothly. But tracing back through previous surgeries I've had with dissolvable stitches and those with permanent ones I have always rejected the dissolvable and this is why I'm having problems again.
I've been told I must inform anyone if I have surgery again not to use dissolvable. My body just won't tolerate them.
Now I know!!!!!!!! wish I'd known before this surgery, but my areoles seem to be doing great and its just the verticals I'm having a problem with and I know from previous that that line heals incredibly well to near invisible. So much so no one knew I'd had a full anchor lift. They just thought I'd had a nipple lift.
So although not great news, I feel a little reassured now we all know what we're dealing with.
I have to return to the clinic to be redressed until the verticals close every other day. It's so hard because we're self employed and time is money so all these visits are paying a heavy toll on us. But I just thank heavens we're only an hour away from the clinic and this is why not only your choice of surgeon is so important but also ensuring that should you have to attend clinic multiple times for reasons beyond control you're able to get there with as little impact on your work life/home life as possible.
Being only an hour away means we only take a couple of hours away from work.... Anymore and it could mean losing clients... If I were employed, I think I'd have lost my job by now. Xx

Re: Allergy to dissolvable stitches
Well im glad you've found the cause cookie
Are they feeling positive that the verticles will close well on their own?
Big hugs to you! It's difficult with being self employed, but like you say it is likely youd struggle more if you were employed!

I'm so pleased to see you have an answer now Cookie, it must have been so frustrating for you especially when you will have done everything in your power to heal as smoothly as possible!
Very true about the clinic location too, it's something we all take for granted when we only have to travel occasionally!
Happy healing Cookie xxx

Thanks girls... It's been incredibly frustrating, but I'm so glad I know now.
Like it or not surgery is something more than likely we all will have again after a BA. So I know I'm having at least one more op ahead of me lol. But at least with not having dissolvable then I should have better healing. Xx

Re: Allergy to dissolvable stitches
u must be so relieved to know. Hope it only gets better from here on.
I hate dissolvable stitches, they itch, break off, and dont leave as nice scars as removable ones. So dont be upset about it!

Re: Allergy to dissolvable stitches
thats good that you now know that you are allergic to them, so what happens when you need stitching in side as they normally use disolvable stitches in there dont they xx

Thanks Rocky
They said I'd probably have permanent stitches on the under layers of skin and use butterfly stitches and glue for the top. xx

Re: Allergy to dissolvable stitches
Tell me about it!
Just have to deal with what's happening now. When I was at the clinic on Tuesday the nurse was picking out loads of stitches my body is rejecting. She said its going to be a while till they get them all but if they get them before they start to infect everything should be OK. Back at the clinic today for another round this has to go on every other day till I'm healed. Still can't shower either for another couple of weeks and have to remain in my sports bra so I put as little strain as possible on the scars.
Merryfreakinchristmas! xx

Thanks mrsball having a 'why me?!' day today. A little fed up and feeling grubby lol, but I know it'll all be worth it in the end. Xx
Re: Allergy to dissolvable stitches
aw no thats not good, hopefully it goes in quick for you. They could also staple you, sounds horrific but I found my stapled wound and scar was so much neater than any stitch scar ive seen but then again it might all be to do with diff skin type etc xx
