Grrrr Stress! Empty Grrrr Stress!

Post by sugarplum_sassie 27th July 2012, 8:37 am

So I chased up THG about my blood results, to be told my nurse wasn't in and she would call the next day, but I was working so she left a message with hubby that there is some concern over my results, great! I knew they'd freak with my results, so now I'm stressing I might get cancelled. I tried calling my nurse today she's not working today, but spoke to my PCC and she told me they are waiting for an anaethetist to look them over, I explained the results are fine for me, and I don't want a decision being made without me being consulted, so I was given the number for the head nurse at Dolan Park, rang straight away and she isn't in till Sunday, so I've left a message for her to call me on Sunday, but argggg I am so stressing now, the thing is if you go by lab results alone on paper I look hyperthyroid (I am hypothyroid) but I'm not hyperthyroid those results are perfectly normal for me on the medication that I take, if they saw me and examined me they'd see that I'm not hyper in the least, I only hope I can convince them of that and there is no extra risk having labs like that. When I had my first op, Sept last year they requested bloods and I gave them results from Jan, as they were all I had, but I was on different medication in Jan so my results looked fine but actually when I had the op if I had had done bloods they would probably have looked the same as now, so I had no probs with that op. I see a private specialist for my thyroid problems and he knows my bloods are fine as they are, as it's to be expected with the medication I take, and he knows not to rely on some arbitrary ref range, that everyone is an individual and to take into account how the patient actually FEELS rather than some figure on a piece of paper! OMG sorry I am ranting now, but this is exactly why I have a knowledgable private specialist because all I did was bang my head against the wall with the NHS and ignorant doctors who only cared about getting your numbers to fit in with the lab range regardless if you still felt like sh!t. I know THG are only covering their backs about additional risk I understand that, I just want my chance to speak to someone and get them to understand that blood tests whilst on the medication I take are pretty pointless and just cause more problems than they are worth, and that I am perfectly fine to undergo surgery. That's what I'm frustrated about, the waiting and not knowing and fear of cancellation hanging over my head, I can't cope with this stress.

Oh no how annoying Grrrr Stress! 3682496823 I'd be fuming as well, it must be so frustrating when the people deciding your future aren't actually there to speak to you!

I hope you get to speak to the head nurse soon and this is sorted out for you. I'm sure it will be fine once you can explain things to them xx

Hi sugarplum. Might be an idea to get in touch with your specialist in the meantime and ask him to fax you a letter stating that you are fine for the operation. I've read other posts (completely different issues) and they asked for a letter from gp/specialist saying it was ok to go ahead.

Thanks everyone. Why do they leave things like this so late??!

Lian- yes last time my specialist wrote to them (but my bloods weren't an issue last time) it's just they've left it so late, it's not easy to get hold of my specialist at short notice because he travels running clinics all over the country, I will see what Sunday/Monday bring, as I'm at work all day tomorrow and won't be able to contact my dr over the weekend anyway.

OMG I don't think I can handle any more stress. Got to speak to the head nurse at the Hospital, and nobody had bothered to tell me that an anaesthetist had looked at my results last Thursday and declined me!!! stating I should decrease my meds and review in 4 weeks! I am so p!ssed that a) I wasn't told and b) all he was given were my results none of my previous notes no additional info that I kept spewing to anyone that would listen that those results are normal for me on the medication I take and I have last years letter from my specialist stating I'm fine for surgery! I told the nurse all this so now, she's emailed my nurse and PCC and I have to call them tomorrow and get them to fax my previous notes and letter from my specialist (which hopefully they will still acknowledge even though it was written last year) because they is no chance of them getting anything from my specialist now. I could just scream cry, god I just want to explode. I've now got another sleepless night to wait, and the anaesthetists that will look over my info tomorrow are not the ones that will be there on my surgery day so I *could* still be refused on the day! Why did they leave it so late?! if my nurse had contacted me when she'd received my results and told me she would need to get them checked I could have told her to make sure the additional info/letter was included so the anaesthetist had the full picture and all this could have been minimised. I only hope it stands for something that I came through the op fine last time, it's so frustrating that I can't speak directly to the person I need to because the people speaking on my behalf are doing a cr@p job! My husband has got time off work, I've arranged childcare, booked a hotel, arranged my working shifts so that I maximise my days off, and don't go over my sick entitlement. I can't reduce my medication and I won't because I'll just become sick. I will be on that phone as soon I can tomorrow morning, until then it's a 22hr countdown Grrrr Stress! 43877 Grrrr Stress! 856466

I really do feel for you Sugarplum. I remember I had problems with my blood results and it was all very last minute too and the stress of it all was terribleGrrrr Stress! 571992

Really hoping you get a definitive answer one way or the other tomorrow babe. The worst thing is the not knowing isn't it. Sure it's a bummer if the op needs to be postponed but to not be able to give notice of this and to leave it to the very last minute is horrible, but sadly does seem to generally be the norm for all who have medical problems Grrrr Stress! 683465.

I know it's easy for me to say, but try and stay positive babe. Lets just ope tomorrow brings good news hey Grrrr Stress! 1150991001 xx

Spoken with my local clinic and with head nurse at Dolan park again today and they have now received my file and the extra info, so it's being taken to the anaethetist this morning, for him to look over when he can and I'm hoping to have answer this afternoon. I also wrote an email for my PCC to forward on to the anaethetist, so I could have a "voice" in all of this, don't know if it will make any difference as I'm not a doctor but at least I know he has all the facts now. God all this stress is making me ill! I feel constantly on edge, feel sick, can't think of anything else but this, nothing I do can take my mind off it.

I know it's not the end of the world if I do have to postpone but there is a very important reason I chose this date, it means I will be well again for when my daughter starts school and I have to walk her 20mins to school and back but more importantly than that it was work, with this date the way my shifts have fallen I am only taking 2shifts off work but have 13 days off work, and I will be under the amount of sick days allowed, and won't need a doctors note, I want to keep my surgery as private as possible. We have a very strict sick policy and if you go over 5days off in a 3mths period then you have to have an informal meeting and be monitored for a month, if you have any further sickness it's a formal meeting and eventually escalates to disciplinary! Last year I had the informal meeting, I stood my ground in not wanting to discuss my surgery but they made it very awkward that I wouldn't tell them. Not to mention I want to change jobs so going on sick leave when starting a new job isn't great either.

Just got a call from admissions! obviously doesn't mean anything they're just working through the list they don't know the fiasco going on, but I am a bit disappointed I'm an afternoon admission (if it goes ahead) don't need to get there till 1pm so goodness knows what time my surgery will be, last year I had to be at Dolan park for 10:30am and I went to theatre at 1pm. Heck at this rate I'll just be glad to be there. On the plus side I get to eat breakfast and won't need to be up at the crack of dawn (bet I'll be awake early anyway though!) it'll take 3 1/2 hrs to get there.

This must be so awful for you Sugarplum, C'mere babe Grrrr Stress! 571992

If you don't hear anything this afternoon hun, really push them for an answer. It's dreadful how these things are left till the very last minute. I've known women to have got to the hospital and then be turned away and sent home at the last minute which must be I can only imagine the worst feeling ever! So if you can avoid getting that far it's better for you.

Sorry if I might caused more concern for you in saying that Sugarplum, I just thought you'd be better being aware so you can push hard now for an answer so that you could avoid that possibility hun. xx

Believe me I know that can happen, and I'd be wanting all my costs refunded! (petrol, hotel costs) This is why I need to know today so we don't drive for over 3hrs to get let down in the worst possible way. I'm still waiting but I don't know how late to leave it? because I don't want to be phoning at 5pm and not be able to speak to someone, I just don't know when the anaesthetist will get to look at it and when the head nurse will get told, she said she'd then email my PCC and it would be her that would phone me, anyone know what time local clinics stay open till?? I was kind of hoping the anaesthetist might have looked it over in his lunch break but they don't have breaks at normal times.
