Breast Scan since BA
I'm due to have a breast scan tomorrow, my first since my BA and I have to go to a specialist unit at the hospital and not the normal one as they can't do scans on augmented boobies in the normal scanning unit - so I'm starting to get worried now.
so, if you've had a scan since having your BA, is it very different to a normal scan and does it hurt more??
Feeling sick about it to be honest
xx

I'm no help either Carol I'm afraid. This is something that plays on my mind, and yet it was one of the questions I asked during my consultations, and was told it wouldn't be a problem.
Good luck for tomorrow hun, let us know how it goes.

Re: Breast Scan since BA
No, it's the normal NHS mammogram screening test Kerrymac - but it's the fact that they can't use the normal scanner which is worrying me and wondered if anybody had had to use one of the specialist machines and if it hurt more than normal (I hate having them done, but would probably worry more if I didn't have them done).

Re: Breast Scan since BA
Hi
As far as i know it it less painfull?. a friend of mine has had both she has no implants but her mum died of breast cancer and she gets lumps her self now and then which they remove to be on the safe side and i`m sure she said the scan doesn`t squish them and is pain free?. I hope this is the case. Good luck xxx

Re: Breast Scan since BA
Thanks Wend. Just got back and it was plain sailing - in fact it was, as you said, less painful as they don't press the plates together as hard (I just wish they'd warm the bl00dy things up beforehand!!!!!!!!). Because it's a different type of scanner which they have to use, I was dreading it thinking they would have to apply more pressure, but that's definitely not the case.
Hopefully that's it for at least another year or two though.

Re: Breast Scan since BA
Glad the scan was okay carol, I bet you're relieved it's over with you.
I wonder if all health authorities use the different scanner for ladies with implants.

Re: Breast Scan since BA
Thank Alfie Yes, mightily relieved. the normal mammogram test hurts, at least it does/did for me - possibly because I didn't have very much breast tissue for them to play with (if you know what I mean LOL), so they had to use firmer pressure to keep the pimples in place. This time though was fine and not painful at all.

Re: Breast Scan since BA
Glad it went ok. I've not had a breast scan but was under the impression that the one they use for ladies with augmented breasts applied less pressure to prevent damage to the implant. X
