I had my ultrasound about 4 weeks ago. I didnt feel overly confident by the sonographers expertise when he told me he had never imaged anyone with implants before.
He didnt say anything throughout the whole scan then afterwards I got told by the consultant that the sonographer had found nothing.
I was relieved but since then have been researching more and come to reallise that unltrasounds dont seem to be showing up leakage in all cases.
I have since a month on received no letter from the hospital with the results.

I went back to my GP today to ask if he would be prepared to refer me for a second opinion, I am in pain especially in my right breast which he was fine about however he also gave me a copy of the letter he had received from the hospital. The letter states they could see no leakage but there was some 'thickening to the edge of the right breast disc??'
I have no idea what this means as they didnt explain anything to me, all I know is that I am in more pain than ever and am still none the wiser.

Im hoping the second scan may be able to tell me more. Anyone have any idea what the thickening could be?

thanks

No idea on the thickening but please make sure your next scan is done by someone who has experience with implants. How can the sonographer say there's nothing wrong if he has no experience in it?

Maybe ask James on here what the thickening could be.

Hi Bubblegum, an ultrasound scan is only approximatley 60% accurate as opposed to an mri which is 90% accurate. i received a phone call from my local breast clinic today who said they wouldnt refer me for an ultrasound scan as i had one a month ago. The person who di my ultrasound said he could take his time and look for a leak but was more concerend with the lump (which i went originally for) but he couldnt find it?. i saw another consultant and expressed that i was not happy with the scan and how little time it took him to do it. she said she would send me for another!!! Afer speaking to breast clinic today, they are not going to refer me and stated i needed to have an mri scan which i had to fund myself (approx £470) as i had gone private in the first place. You keep at them to send you for one, its so frustrating that they just try and fob you off. i am going for a consultation on 22nd October with original clinic for replacement of pips for £2500. take care x
