Medication Empty Medication

Post by Jessica 5th April 2009, 9:09 am

Hi, another question sorry!

I'm currently taking Amitryptiline, which is a tri-cyclic antidepressant (not taking it for depression and on a very low dose 10mg a day). I know it's along shot that any of you might be taking this as well. but were you taking anything else that your surgeon said to stop? I know one of the side effects of this drug is that I get very low blood pressure, and it was always low to begin with, so I'm guessing the surgeon will not want me on this. I'm also on the pill which is said to increase blood pressure, so will the two cancel each other out? I doubt it lol.

Hey Jess, I cant help with the Amitryptiline question, but when I went to my first consult, my surgeon told me Id need to come off my birth control pill a month before surgery. So yours may tell you same???
Im sure one of the other ladies on here can help with the antidepressent question.
Whens your op? Sha-x-x

I'm not sure about that medication but i would definately ask your surgeon or gp if you have to stop especially if it interferes with your blood pressure x

I don't know I'm afraid - but like the others have said, best to ask and make sure. At your first consult you will be given a form to fill in and it will ask for any details like this - then you can talk it over with your surgeon.

Oh Jessica I am not sure either, my p.s. asked about all medication I was taking and I was not told to stop any. I too have low blood pressure which you should mention as they keep an eye on it in recovery room and leave you lying flat. I have had a few G.A.'s it's not a problem, better than high ppressure. As for the pill well my days of that are well gone 👍 However, I do have HRT and no need to stop I was told. It's best to keep asking anything you think of write them down ready for your consultation..as it is soo easy o forget. All the best Hug xx

Thanks for all the replies. Dani, does it give you really vivid dreams? I have been on Amitriptiline about two months now and in the mornings I have noticed I'm having crazy techni-colour dreams, and my specialist said that was something that could happen! Weird! Anyway, I'll ask on Thurs as well and we can report back.

lol yeah kind of, started taken the medication in December and since have been having really strange random dreams about my first serious boyfriend, considering I am 21 now and was with him when I was 15. Thing is they are so real and everytime I have one of these dreams I seem to bump in to him the next day somewhere, really really odd. We never kept contact since we broke up all them years ago and I really cant stand him, dont know whats going on lol. I have been with my current boyfriend for nearly three years and he thinks its really strange too, but also thinks I want to get back with him as i keep dreaming about him but thing is i really dont lol.

Maybe its the tablets I have no idea, but my consultant said something similar, other than that I have only felt really drowsy when I first started taking them. I began on 10mg like yourself but found that I kept having relapses of pain so my consultant put me up to 25mg and take one each evening.

Will defo post on thurs what Mr Singh says hunni

Apparently my consultant says in high doses they are sold as a street drug for their hallucinogenic properties when you're sleeping! So don't worry about the dreams, just tell your bf it's all about the drug as I have been dreaming loads about people from my past as well. Very strange...
