Hiya Ladies
I take vitamin C daily but have been reading somewere that you cant take it before your op? is that true? how long before should i stop taking any vitamins?

Hi hun
Went i went for my pre-op with the nurse, she told me to stop taking vit c and any other multi-vitamin. She said you should stop takin them 2 weeks before (by now it was only 1 week before which she said didnt matter but to stop them straight away)

My nurse said the same as they thin the blood. Not sure about the after so I am keeping it safe and not going back on the vits until 2 weeks after.

I've heard big doses can act as a blood thinner although i didnt know that about vit c, omg not long to go hun!!! xxx

Hiya,
I was worried about getting ill before my op, as I catch every cold going, so I mentioned this to the nurse, and she said it would probably be ok to take Vitamin C, but to check with my surgeon, which I did, and he said Vitamin C was fine to take right up until the op :-)

Ive heard this aswell hun, omg i know its only a couple of weeks away it seems so real now!! does anyone also know whilst were on the subject of dos and donts how long before you cant drink alcohol?
My mum said in her list it was a month!! its panicked me a bit as ive been out last weekend and was supposed to be having a couple of drinks on friday..did anyone else stop drinking for a certain amount of time before the op??

I thought it was two weeks before and two weeks after but the nurse told me one week before and one week after with no alcohol. gain, it's one of those things where you get different advice, but stopping for a at lest a few days is certainly best x

Thanks Moonmar i was just worried as im planning on going out for a few drinks this friday and that will be two weeks before my op so hopefully i will be ok.

I dont drink so didnt really ask hun but in my booklet it says 2 weeks before and after, everyone does seem to get different advice so i would ask your ps to be sure xxx
