I went for my consult today with my surgeon. It was all going really well he suggested i had 295cc unders, i tried on the implant and i was really pleased with the size.

However when he was going through my medical history I told him that i have a low platelet count (which is the cells that clot blood together). I told him what my count was and he said he would not perform the operation unless he had a letter from my specialist telling him it was safe to go ahead with the surgery. My platelet count is only classed as mild and my specialist has said there is no need to do anything about it because i have plenty more platelets to do the Job. Having said that tho i was not planning to have a BA at that time. He has written a letter to my doctor which i will deliver tomorow.

I am gutted and can't stop crying. I can't believe this has happened. I know the rational thing to do is say my health is more important. But the thought of having to live the rest of my life with no boobs isn't much of a consulation.

The waiting is going to be the worst. I don't know how i'm going to get through the next week or so untill i find out.

Oh hun, don't despair, he may say that you are ok to have the surgery, if not he may suggest something you can do to improve your platelet count and have your surgery when that's better. But my feeling is that you will be ok - after all, BA or not, none of us can be sure when we will need some kind of surgery, so if your specialist said you have "enough to do the job" am guessig he would have included potential more "risky" situation... keep up updated, I have my fingers crossed xxx

I know how you feel Len, ive just been for my 2nd consultation with my surgeon tonight and he has recieved a letter from my GP saying I have an extremely low iron count, the surgeon has just said he is not happy to go ahead unless I can do something to raise my iron levels, i am booked to go in on April 3rd. Im totally devastated as I know that a year ago I was told that my body doesnt store iron, it uses what it needs and gets rid of the rest so no matter how many supplements i take i will never have a "normal" iron level. I am sooooo upset as its took me so long to pluck up the courage to book and now this happens. I really hope you get the ok to go ahead, im booking an appointment with the nurse at my doctors practice tomorrow to see if theres anything i can do. I keep telling myself these things happen for reasons and its best not to ignore them as disappointing as it is, your health is the main priority!!! Fingers crossed for you, xxxxxxx

oh no, poor you. Who are you booked to go with?

Its so annoying though dont you think because you know that it won't really make any difference to the operation or recovery, not really anyway, its just the surgeons covering there own backs.

I keep thinking if i hadn't gone to the doctors ages ago because i was feeling really tired i would never had had a blood test and i would never of known about my low platelets. I know that some companies don't even give you a blood test so the op would have gone ahead and i know it would have all been alright because my platelet levels are no where near dangerous, its just the way i am apparantly. Oh and the tiredness i went to the docs with orig had nothing to do with platelets it was just stress!!!!!!

I really hope you can get your Iron sorted out. Do you think your doctor could possibly write a letter to the surgeon explaining all this??

Let me know how it goes.

I know exactly what you mean len, if I hadnt mentioned it to the surgeon im positive he wouldnt have even asked about it. I just wanted to make sure he had all my medical history so he know what he was working with, I could kick myself. Ive been onto the nurse at the cobalt centre in newcastle and she said as long as my count goes up to over ten then i should be ok, i guess its plenty of liver meals for me in the next few weeks haha!!! Im really hoping I can get it up so I can go ahead, i cant see how or why it would make a difference to the op, like you say they`re just covering their own backs, i`ll keep you informed. I really hope you get yours sorted too, fingers crossed for us both, xxxxxxxx

Don't forget to drink lots of Guiness as well!!!!!

I'm glad you've had some good news anyway. I know you are going to be on edge now untill it acually happens, which isn't nice because you've got enough to worry about with the actual op.

I think it will all work out for you. Yes please keep me updated. You can PM me if you want to, to let me know.

Good Luck
