Anyone with toddlers/pre-schoolers? Empty Anyone with toddlers/pre-schoolers?

Post by Lynnie 29th March 2010, 1:12 pm

As I lay in bed this morning with my 3 year old son jumping and climbing over me I wondered what on earth I'm going to do when I'm trying to recover from my surgery. Shocked

I've also got a 19 month old daughter who is also full of energy and wants picking up and cuddling a lot.

I've always been one to jump and roll around with the kids so they're going to find it upsetting if I tell them to leave me alone.

I've got my sister coming to help me out for a few days and then my OH will be off for a couple but then I'm on my own.

I wondered if anyone else has been in a similar situation and how they coped post BA. I'm getting quite worried about it help

Anyone with toddlers/pre-schoolers? 368291 Hi Lynnie I am in similar position to yourself aswell as my eldest who is 9 I have a 4 yr old, 3 yr old and 6 month old !!! I am now 5 days post op and coping really well. I have been able to cuddle my 6 month old on my lap and I even bathed him and fed him yesterday. As for my 4 and 3 yr olds who are soooooo boisterous they have been fine. My husband has entertained them and I just explained that mummy was a bit sore so couldn't lift them up but they could still have kisses and little cuddles which they were okay about. I am also usually the one who rolls around the floor with them but I think it was quite a novelty having other people do this with them. Mine are all off on school hols now and husband is back at work too EEEK - am sure you will be fine hun xxxx

I'm a bit worried about this also. My husband isnt very supportive about me having the op and neither is my Mum so am struggling a little with how to cope, especially as im having an uplift as well. :-(
i'm hoping mu Mum will relent alittle and come over to help me when it actually happens...

Hi my younger 2 were 5 and 2 when I had my ba and it was fine. I just told them I'd fallen and hurt myself so they couldn't jump at me etc. My husband was off for a week and I didn't properly lift my little boy up for 5 weeks but it was fine.

Hi, I have a 3yr old daughter and I prepped her weeks before my BA that I wouldn't be able to pick her up or play with her alot for a few weeks cuz I was getting new big boobies....Lol. So when the time came she was prepared and understood and has been nothing short of a lil mini nurse! She's constantly asking me if I need anything and if my boobies still hurt. Her dad has been a HUGE help Hug

Hi Kate. Glad to hear you're doing so well. How has it compared this time to when you had your first BA? x

That's so sweet bless her! I don't know if my son would be quite so helpful but I hadn't thought about preparing him for it. That's probably a really good idea, thanks.

Lou, I'm sorry you don't feel very supported by your family :console: I really hope they come round. When is your op?

I thought my mum would be totally against me having it done, so much so that I wasn't going to tell her. Fortunately she has surprised me but she lives 100 miles away so I don't have family around to help. How old are your children?

5 weeks, eek! How did you manage without lifting him at all? I'm thinking my 3 year old will probably not be a problem, it's just my little girl because she's too young to understand x

Hi Lynnie - the second time has been nowhere near as bad as the first. Obviously my muscle has stretched and pocket already been made and the surgeon did inform me that it would be nothing like the first time - although i was dubious glad to say he was right !!! Surprisingly coped really well with the kids as they have been really good and OH has kept them well entertained for me luckily !!! xx

It should be easier with overs - I had unders and was sore for weeks - thats why I couldn't lift my son for 5 weeks but hopefully with overs you'll heal much faster xx

I agree with Claire265 - Overs are means to be a lot less painful than unders and heal faster. Obviously the second time round for me has been pretty easy luckily but the first time my eldest son was not then 2 and I think it was a good 10 days before I could lift him comfortably but I was back driving etc within a week as I was back at work at the time xxx
