Another tip
Got a tip today from my BIL who is a theatre nurse... he said to wash the area due to be operated on with an antiseptic soap the night before and on the morning of my op... He recommended Wrights coal tar antiseptic soap, he said it would just give me that little bit more protection to fight off any infection post-op....
He better not be winding me up 'cos that stuff stinks!!!
But it does make sense to use an antiseptic rather than my usual body wash... so I guess they'll smell me before they see me on sunday all being well! LOL

Re: Another tip
Aw hun, don't blame you for taking every precaution. If it's a good wind up if it is one. But what he says makes sense. Good luck sunday hun
Re: Another tip
Thanks sweetness... I think if he told me to turn up with purple hair and clown shoes because it will help.... I would!
Re: Another tip
I scrubbed myself with anti bac soap before my op too, think its was cuticare or something

Ohhh so he's not winding me up.... quite a good tip then!
Re: Another tip
I did wonder, when I was showering on day of op if it was ok to use perfumed soap. So it makes sense. Couldn't do any harm I suppose unless you have a good sense of smell

Re: Another tip
A friend of mine who had her op about 5 years ago was given iodine to wash in the night before so she went into theatre a lovely shade of yellow!!
When I had mine the MB pre op instructions said to do this but when it came to it I was told to shower normally as the area would be thoroughly cleaned when I was under GA. Had visions of me snoring away whilst getting a bed bath!

Cookie!! I can smell you from acros the Channel xx
Sorry could not resist!! Reminded me of school days and the pink carbolic soap Sorry, most of you girls are way too young to remember that...but the smell has lingered for many years...unforgettable!!
As the others have said quite common advice, but as Sally said they do sterilise you in theatre xxx

Re: Another tip
I used a normal anti bac wash as per the mb pre op instructions.
I think any ant bac wash is fine, the area to be operated on is washed down with betadine in theatre before they start anyway, x

Hibi scrub is fantastic stuff. I didnt use it before my op, didn't think, but used to have a huge supply of this stuff for my horse Any nasty cuts or scrapes anywhere used to bathe it in this every day to fight off infection adn if he had any cuts near bottom of legs would drench them in the stuff before and after he went int he field to stop any nasties in the mud giving an infection. Worked every time, fantastic stuff and bright pink too!!! Also you can buy it really really cheap from any pharmacy or even vets/some pet shops for larger animals xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Ohhhhhhhhhh I remember carbolic! Pooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!
Well, I've spoken to BIL and said I believe him now
He said the soap he suggested was the cheapest but would be OK, but as said here the Hibiscrub is the best to use....
So I just bought some of that -£8.00!!!!
Mind you, it's money well spent if it helps isnt it.
Re: Another tip
I got some hibiscrub from boots today! cost around £6 so not bad, hopefully will do the trick, thanks cookie

Re: Another tip
No probs Goergie... Hubby picked mine up for me... men are rubbish at grabbing the bargains aren't they
Its good that we can share tips isn't it!
I thought of another today too as I was sorting out my old bras... I was just about to throw some away, when I thought about the bra expanders, and thought if I just cut the loop part off the bras at the back (you know the loop bit, think they're called the eyes from the hook and eye bit) then if I need a bit more breathing space due to swelling, then I could just add that piece!... I'm a genius!
