Re: why do ..........
I was wondering this today too, as at my 1 week check up I've been told to wear a sports bra for another 2 weeks. Although the amount I've just spent on them I think I'll wear them till christmas, lol.

Re: why do ..........
Thats a tough one - I don't know!! Although my ps told me to wear one for 6 weeks I'm still wearing it now 6 months on at night time so I think if I'd have been told not to wear one I still would have!

Re: why do ..........
My surgeon, Mrs C C Kat - insists on the sportsbra to be worn day and night for three months.
I had an uplift as well as a BA so whether she reduces the time for purely BA people - I can't say.
The main reason for the sportsbra is to support the weight of the breast and therefore place less tension on the anchor scar while it is healing.
The sportsbra also helps to avoid any kind of trauma to the newly positioned implants which it is believed helps to avoid Capsular Contraction.
I don't particularly like them either, but I do get a sense of security from the support they are giving me in these early stages of healing. Also, I would like to think I am going to get the best outcome possible, and if they help achieve that then I think it is worth it.
There is no reason why you can't wear a bikini on holiday, or a different bra for a night out, or even go bra-less for a special occasion during the first three months.
As regards why some surgeons do and some don't - it's the same with all surgery. They all have their own opinions about what does and doesn't work.
Mrs Kat does not believe in massaging newly implanted, uplifted breasts either, she just says 'where your sportsbra day and night'.
Presumably, this is to keep everything well supported during the healing process, and until things naturally settle down.
Hope this is helpful.

Re: why do ..........
Not too sure about the answer but I wore no bra for the first 10 days and no strapping at all, just steri strips on the incisions. My surgeon said that's so I could see any potential infections or problems straight away. I then went and saw the nurse at 10 days post op and had to wear a post op bra until the 6 week mark (day and night). I also still sometimes wear it at night too as it gives me the security and feels so comfy.

Re: why do ..........
Hi Sta
I have often wondered the same, however, even if my surgeon had told me it wasn't necessary I would have worn one, the support it gave (&still gives) I find very re-assuring they are protected and supported until in a year hopefully they are really 'attached' to all the soft tissues inside my boobs... even tho I had small implants even the weight of mine is quite 'heavy' and without sb on I would def worry about complications.. I have fell asleep a couple of times without it on and in the morning I can def tell they were not protected overnight and they ache like hell! so its still sb for me unless I am going out of an evening!! xxx
