Verrucas and BA
OK, slightly embarrassing here
I have had some verrucas on my feet for quite a while now. Been using the acid stuff the doctor gave me, but still have them. I've also tried the home freezing kits a few times, still no luck.
I read in one of the guides I got at consults that you are unsuitable for BA if you have an active infection anywhere on your body. Does anyone know if they would refuse to do my op just because of these verrucas?
Thanks

I don't think so hun, just don't tell them! Verrucas aren't an infection, they are viral. This is embarrassing too but at beauty school I picked up warts from someone as I was doing manicures and they just show up as a tiny little bump on my pointing finger maybe once every 8 months. Horrible things - I think they are caused by the same virus that causes verrucas. xx

Re: Verrucas and BA
HEhe I have 1st hand knowledge... guess what.. lol I have just got rid of mine... ok a quick story.. my GP kept telling me I did not have one... 18 months later I decide to treat it as one and once more when at the docs ask the doc to check to see if I have a verruca.. she confirmed I did.. and gave me some cream.. it kinda turns the skin white then you peel it off.. grim I know.. but yea that is what you do... so every day for months I did this.. was sore sometimes.. and eventually I went to see a chirpopodist.. £25 and she said that is was just 25% infected... she scrapped a bit and said there was hardly anything there... imagine how big this must have been.. she said I had a group of 5 together... what she advised was this... get some duck tape.. yes builders tape and place it on top.. keep filing and getting it down but duck tape it every day.. anyway i went back 3 weeks later.. she had a scrape and hey hoo it has gone... I am still using duck tape at mo.. she said just incase for a week.. but to be honest i am gonna use it for a month as I soooo want to make sure it has gone... they need light hence the duck tape.. it keeps them back and kills them.. like weeds I guess.... Oh and when I had my BA I had duck tape on.. hehe.. Mmm I may of taken it off.. but I am sure I told the nurse about it and she said fine. Infection is for other things... not something like this... infection in your body I think they mean... this is more of a growth. I sooo suggest going to the chiropodist and duck tape.. I did the freezing thing too.. at £15 a can... Sooo I have been there and I was treating mine for probably 5 months.. and I mean treating it.. every day.. peeling... freezing it weekly when it hadn't gone too... I feel a blinkin expert on this. ;-)

Thanks girls, I feel a little more reassured now. I guess I'll just double check with my surgeon/nurse nearer the time, when I've actually booked my date.
I'll need to try the thing with the tape, not heard of that before! Anything's worth a try now though, had them for too long

Well they need sorting hun.. as some people get them on their hands... etc... and they spread awful i am told... I was lucky as all 5 were together... but you want rid before you pass them on.. showers etc.... I would defo get some help... I really did take mine on like they wer the devil and it took months.. I soo wish I had gone to the chiropodist earlier... would of been less painful and cheaper in the long run... quicker too I think. ;-)

Try the Boots on make treatment. I've always found this works better than Bazucca and spent a fortune on going to the chiropodist weekly for months and they still didn't get rid of it. Used the Boots stuff for a few weeks and it went. Love the duct tape idea too xxx

Re: Verrucas and BA
Yeah, I guess the boots stuff and duct tape might be my next steps. The acid from the doctors seems to have only burnt off the skin around the verrucas without actually making much different to the things themselves. I might just go back to the docs though and see if they can try freezing them, or if they have any other advice to give me.
Where would I get duct tape from though...?

Re: Verrucas and BA
Funnily enough Nisey I had one when I had my op but it seems to have disappeared!....... no honestly......... I'd been treating it with Bazuka and it hadn't made a difference, but a few days after my op I managed to have a peek at my footsies and it had gone? I know totally wierd, all I can think of is it must've been the extra strength anti biotics they gave me :dunno: But it's definitely gone and hasn't come back!

Re: Verrucas and BA
Oh wow sticky, lucky you! Fingers crossed that happens to me too! Or better still that I manage to get rid of them before then... Had you had it for a while then? I think mine is more resistant now because I left it too long before treating it (the internet said they usually go away on their own without treatment, but it became clear that that wasnt going to happen!)

I was the same Nisey, I had it for ages without realising what it was!
It did seems to get better at one point but it just came back again, are you using the little emery board you got in the gel pack to get rid of the dead skin around it?
I thought it was so bloomin small it wasn't going to make a difference so I just bought a pumice stone from the chemists and used that after baths etc.

Re: Verrucas and BA
Yeah I've been using the emery board, I had to buy a new one though cause it got worn out I havent used the cream/acid for a week or two now though cause the skin around them was falling off and I was worried about scarring so thought I'd let it recover a little and try the freezing again, which doesnt seem to have worked either. Think I'm gonna have to go back to the docs or some sort of foot specialist.

Re: Verrucas and BA
Well Mr Richards confirmed that if I still have my verrucas by the time I get my BA, it wont affect it - that's good to know!
I was at the doctors today and got them frozen by then nurse (ouch!) and she said I have to go back every 2 weeks until they're gone. Hope it wont be too much longer...

Re: Verrucas and BA
Yeah, I hope so! The nurse seemed a little off with me, but I guess she must've just had a bad day. Either that or I was being over-sensitive because I was feeling embarrassed! hehe
