Re: iam gutted!!!
Soo sorry to hear this!! I have heard of other ladies having this too, not too sure who offhand? I believe they took some form of medication to correct, and had blood monitored to stabalise. Nothing serious at all, but not safe enough to operate...so I guess you were lucky they were thourgh in pre-op tests as all should be, otherwise you would not know .
So, now it can be easily corrected and you will be on track soon for your op. You will appreciate them all the more I am sure.
Thinking of you xxx

Re: iam gutted!!!
Oh no, sorry to hear that lovely, and so close to your op! But it's good in a way theyve cancelled the op, the last thing you want is for complications to arise and to be ill for weeks.
I didn't have blood tests either, is it something you've suffered with before lovely? Did they give you any advice on how to boost your platelets?
Sept 4th is only a week away, so fingers crossed everything's ok lovely girl.

Re: iam gutted!!!
hi ya, so how comes not everyone gets offerd blood tests, thats abit naughty really . i had low platelets when i was pregnant five years ago, but as soon as i had my daughter, they went back to normal, then i had them again a few years ago n they said maybe its coz im abit of a binge drinker, i go out every sat nite with friends and apparantly alcohol can have an effect, if its not drinking then i think its some other under lying problem. so ive just got to stop drinking on my sat nights and have another blood test to see if the results are higher, if they r ok then hopefully i can book for september but thats doubtful as spaces get taken up really quick, so im on alcohol ban for ages now!! lol xxx

Re: iam gutted!!!
Ahh I see. Binge drinking can really damage the liver, so you might want to get it checked out by your GP anyway, you might have developed a problem which is why your platelets are so low.
I'm glad they wouldn't operate on you though lovely, it could have been distastrous!
Hope it all goes well lovely, I'm sure for your new boobs you'll be able to resist the booze!

Re: iam gutted!!!
awww big i know how you feel being let down this close to your op hunny.
i had my last b/a cancelled 2 days before op too as my mrsa results came back positive and i had to do the antibiotic and body sctub treatment. it failed to get rid of it so i done it all again and guess what?? ..yes it failed again i was so gutted.
i finally got rid of it with iv antibiotics in hospital when i had to get a different op, but my b/a was postponed 7 months because of it.
i'm sure your blood will even itself out if like you say you don't touch alchohol for a few weeks, it's so worth it to get your new boobies hunny.
you will get there, chin up

Aw I'm so sorry about this hun ..but like the others have said, it's far better to have found this out now rather than later.

Ive had very low blood platelets when I had lung surgery a few years ago, it can also be caused by an infection in the body too I think ? but dont quote me on that !
Good luck as I never had a blood test either, so it's a good job you did ! xx

Re: iam gutted!!!
my infection was hib, which is present in everyone, etc, nose, throat, but mine got carried away, as I had collapsed lung with internal bleeding, bit of a mess really and feeling very low, but it didn't show up until I had complications after a few weeks of my release from hospital, but I was given antibiotics, and a few blood tests, mine was very low though, I cant remeber the figures now, but lets hope yours aren't too low and pick up again quickly xx

Re: iam gutted!!!
Hiya hun,
I can tell you all about low platelets, I suffer from this same problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok number one -
It is very easy to have a false reading with low platelets, so don't stress too much, the results may be completely wrong and the doctors will be able to check this.
number two -
You can't boost your low platelets, the only way of doing this is if they are really low ie - below 10,000. And if this was the case you would have lots of bruises all over your body and small tiny pinpricks like a rash. You would probably need a blood transfusion - this is very very rare.
Did they tell you what your platelet count was????
My story -
I discovered i had low platelet levels when i went for a routine blood test at docs about a year ago. They had to do another test to confirm. I was then referred to a specialist at the hospital. My levels alternate between 90,000 and 113,000. The normal amount you should have is between 150,000 - 400,000. Having low platelets will only really effect you if they drop below 10,000. I have been told that you can safely have an operation as long as your platelets are 80,000 or above.
When i decided to have my boob job i mentioned my low platelets to the surgeon, he didn't really say much at the time untill i went for my blood checks before the op. They read my platelets as 68,000!!!!! They have never been this low so i knew it was a false reading. My surgeon said he would only go ahead with the BA if i could get a letter from my specialist to say it is safe to do so. Well i spoke to my specialist he sent me for a blood test at the hosp there and then, and guess what they came back as 90,000. He said there was no danger at all in having a BA. He wrote a letter to my ps and faxed it. Hey presto i now have boobs!!!!! It was stressfull, but it got sorted out. And my ps took extra care with me, i had no bruising at all and no excessive bleeding.
If you want to know anything else then please feel free to pm me.
If the blood tests do come back and you do have low platelets, there are lots of reasons why this may be. It can be down to a viral infection, or you could be taking medication which may lower your levels. I have low platelets for no reason!! I think its called Auto Immune Thrombocytopenia!!!
Good luck but don't stress, it may take some time to sort out though, so you do need to be patient.

hi hun, oh my god,ive been feeling so alone on this, thinking i was the only one so thank you 4 messaging,
well, my pc said that my levels wernt dangerously low, but the surgeon didnt feel happy with operatating, until they were higher, so am still unsure of the exact level, i will find out wednesday tho wen i see my docter, as my doc n my surgeon were chatting about my situation on the phone
also, i had low platelets a few years ago, and i remeber the number 84,000, so thats not seriously low? it is quite stressful as they wont do my op, till i get a high reading, so i think its down to drinking at weekends, as in myself i feel fine, if it is a viral infection, ill hopefully find out wednedsay, also, i take propranolol medication everday, so maybe i should mention that, well hun, im glad u did get ure boobies, hope everythings going well?? xx

Re: iam gutted!!!
Hi hun,
I know it can be down to drinking but you have to drink seriously a lot and over a long long time for it to effect them. I think 84,000 isn't too low. Definately mention your medication though hun, and check the side effects on the box incase it say it there.
If they are low when you see your doc, then really he should refer you to the hosp. I would mention it too him, i have had low platelets for over a year now, and you really don't want to be waiting that long on the off chance that they might increase. You need to tell him that low platelets are preventing you from doing things that you want to do, so something needs to be done about them.
Let me know how it all goes
