Scars and fading Empty Scars and fading

Post by _Carrie_ 26th August 2009, 7:26 am

Hi ladies

I was just wondering how long it took your scars to fade to a silvery line? Mine are getting there, but they're still darker than my skin, so are still noticeable. I'm putting bio-oil on every day (usually just once but sometimes twice) and I'm 6.5 months PO.

Would be interested to hear...I've heard it can take a year - is this true?

Thanks! Flash

Thanks everyone - I'm really pleased with how neat and flat they are, so hopefully they'll fade to white in the next few months

Hi Carrie!!

I am sure they will fade as the others said in time usually a year. Everyones healing differs. Massaging them should help, mine are nearly blending in evenly with my skin...I am a smoker..not good so will take longer. xxx Looking great in your pic 👍

Does everyone on here put stuff on their scars? I'm just leaving them alone and hoping that they would fade over time by themselves.

Do you think I should use something? Will it affect what my scars look like if I don't?

Hi Marie!!

Putting something on will only quicken the process, unless you have bad healing..i.e. silicone gel/sheets. Massaging will do the same, as well as breaking down any scar tissue and keep circulation flowing to enable good blood/oxygen flow. So, I guess it is preference really, I do use, when I remember, as I smoke, and need a helping hand due to extra bad toxins travelling around Blush xx

Thanks Mia.

I am really rubbish at putting cream on everyday! I haven't actually looked at my scars for ages! I shall look at them tonight and if they look ok I think I'll leave them, I don't smoke and I heal ok. If they look red I think I'll buy some stuff to put on them!

👍 Thats the best Marie I think....if they dont concern you...why bother with the hassle....I have the silicone sheets on..habit... dont need changing daily, otherwise I would forget and it would bother me too. They will eventually heal on their own like any other cut/incision you have and if you are generally healthy and heal well, why spend the time and money. Give You xx

OOOO Cakey!!!! Did you have to ask Hysterical

YES I do smoke far to much...right got that one off my chest now...I smoke around 20 B&H a day for how many years  So yes it will without a doubt effect healing cakey. baby Sorry!!

I also take a high dose of slow release vitimin C. to counteract the effects and aid general health as the body does not store it. Dermatologist and surgeon advice. Some times we fail to do the right things in life and on this issue ...I am very guilty.

Right I am off to unpeel my silicone sheet Hysterical and look at my incisions now.... I will report back in 5mins. Last look they were nearly skin tone! Oh any excuse for a peek eh!!xxx I shall have a ciggie too Screwy

I'm a little concerned about my scars. It's over a year since my op, and my left scar has almost faded but my right it still quite noticeable. I've been using bio oil.

I really hope my other scar fades too.

Post by Mia 26th August 2009, 9:38 pm

Ah Girls!!! Honesty and boobs....dont they bring some fun into our lives eh Hysterical

Right I have really enjoyed my B&H...Bliss!!

My incisions are a very very pale pinkish, they have always been very smooth and small so no bumps at al..thanks to surgeon and aftercare advice, I believe. However, I also checked two more scars I have for comparison...just for research purposes  One is an appendix scar from when I was 14...40 years ago....oh someone help here!! It is white not skin colour and bumpy, every needle hole is visible sorry if you are squeamish!! So, I explain that away with surgeons skills in needlework....not his best skill.

I also have an HRT implant inserted in my groin for the past 4 years, every six months, last one two weeks ago... that is red vering on purple. To have this they just give you local aneasthetic, cut the skin with scalpal around 3ins insert the implant ouch!! and no stitches just a dressing... the skin knits back itself . This is also more noticable than my breast incisions.

So, after all this research, I would say it is down to skill of surgeon in his cutting and needlework, following aftercare advice, and personal healing. Smoking playing is part in hindering the process.

So I am going to give my other incisions a treat from now on......silicone and massage on the menu for me.

Gosh I need a nicotine fix after all that Hysterical xxxx

I checked mine last night, they are pink, I'm going to leave them be as you can't see them.

The silicone sheets sound good though!

I had a good look at mine last night and the scars themselves are white and totally flat, but there's a slightly pinkish area around the scars...which is why I thought they were still pink.

Have no idea what that's about, but hopefully it'll all fade in time!
