My PCT are pants!!!
hey girlies,
OK so went to my dr to ask if they could do anything NHS wise has i have a tuberous boobie and they flatly told me they dont do that kind of thing! then asked if they could recommend me a breast corrective/reconstructive surgeon and was told that as they dont deal with these kind of issues they cannot help me out!
The advice i was given was to bascially give Guy's or St Thomas's a call and ask them! what a waste of time!...at least i managed to get a repeat perscription of my pill while i was in there lol...
Got first consult with PC booked with MYA on Aug 9th..looking forward to that, cant wait to get to see the surgeon next..think im going to see how this one goes and hopefully book a couple more with maybe mybreast not sure who else yet at this stage...
Just looking forward to having a decent (normail looking) pair of boobies eventually!
hope everyone is well xxxx

Re: My PCT are pants!!!
Hi hun, it's horrible they treated you like that at the GP's. I think they've had so much bad press about reccomending people who don't need ops, they aren't even offereing people who really need them. It's sad this has to happen.
Glad your still looking to do it yourself, will be worth it hun if your very unhappy with your boobies. Good luck on your booby journey.

Hi
Im realy shocked your GP couldnt help u out or at least recommend a reputable PS for you to talk to. I thought that was always the advice given when seeking cosmetic surgery - go to your GP first for a recommendation!!
Seems u have taken the first step now, without the help of your GP, so congratulations and I hope the consultation goes well on the 9th.
Also just a thought but how about a second opinion on NHS surgery or a private referral from another GP within your practice???
Best wishes xxxxxxxxx

Re: My PCT are pants!!!
Whether you are eligible for NHS treatment will depend on the severity of your tuberous breast and how much it effects your psychological well-being. Did your GP examine you or question you about depression or anxiety? If not I would ask to see someone else in the practice.
I have heard of girls who are very tuberous getting referred for payment by the NHS even after having initially paid to see an NHS consultant privately. Perhaps see a few MyBreast surgeons and see what they think. Most of them are also practicing NHS consultants.

Re: My PCT are pants!!!
oh i think that is awful hunny, after getting enough courage to actually go in and ask about it, then to be treated like that is terrible.
i would definately go see another doctor hunny and get a second opinion, as annie says the least they should have done is examine you and ask about depression etc and certainly they should have given you better advice on how to find a good surgeon.
don't give up with the nhs until at least you have spoken to another doc hun, good luck.

Hi Louise, what area are you in? PM me if you don't want to put it on the forum I'd just like to check your local PCT guidelines for this.
Also see another GP and don't ask, TELL HIM that you want to be refered to a consultant to discuss it with him. There seems to be an awful lot of confusion as far as boobies go in the NHS

Re: My PCT are pants!!!
Annies right your GP should have examined you i would book a appointment with another GP to see if they can help.
Ive also heard of ladies booking a consult with private surgeon then to be told that there op can be funded by the nhs so its worth booking some consultations as well.
Good Luck Hun x x

Hun, from research I found that you are able to have tuberous boobs treated on the NHS, I would def book another appointment with a different gp and talk to them about it and how they make you feel. Good luck chick

i deffo have mybreast on my list of companies to book consults with so reassuing to know alot of the surgeons with them are NHS guys - hopefully will get some useful advice/opinions from them...

Well I'm pleased you wouldn't be surprised, so this won't be a shock..........but you're bloomin right............they don't!!
In March 2004 South Worcestershire Primary Care Trust (SWPCT) widely circulated its
Commissioning Policy for Breast Reduction and Breast Augmentation indicating that these
procedures are considered to be low-priority treatment and thus not normally funded.
Exceptional cases may be presented to the PCT’s Clinical Priorities Advisory Committee (CPAC),
though these will require evidence of significant features such as gravitational pain for breast
reduction. The PCT will also require requests for surgery to be evidenced by medical
photographs. This policy does not apply to reconstruction post surgery for breast cancer.
2. EXCEPTIONAL CASES
In determining whether a patient presents with an exceptional case for surgery the General
Practitioner should consider the Regional Aesthetic Guidelines with particular attention to the
following:

Thats really terrible, keep fighting all you can, dont give up at all. I was at my GP this morning and while there i asked if my PCT would definately be funding my BA and she said yes, and she got a letter from my surgeon saying if all goes well with the psycholigist then i will be booked in for surgery. Just please dont give up on it just yet,xx
