Going it alone...
Morning lovely ladies!
So I need your votes please!!! Husband can only take one day off work, so is it best to have him around on the day of surgery for moral support or to have him for the day after to run around after me? It does say that after a GA you are supposed to have an adult with you for 48hrs so I feel it should be the day after (kids would be at school and after school club so not under my care).
But I'm also worried about surgery day and could use moral support! I don't have any friends I'd feel comfortable to come to hospital with me - I hate putting on people and they all have kids of their own to care for. I'm not telling any relatives about the BA so that isn't an option...
What would you do / did you do??
Xxx

Re: Going it alone...
Hi Lucy, I did surgery day alone, and had hubby with me the day after. Are you day stay or over night? If your day stay maybe they will let you stay in till hubby can collect uou after work. It's tricky as you will need him from the minute you leave the hospital and most definitely the day after. The pain meds I was given to take home really spaced me out so was glad I had my husband around xx

Re: Going it alone...
My hubs was with me the whole time, but he works for himself so it's easy. To be honest, on the day itself, he sat and watched an England footie match while I dozed in and out. If you're overnight, the nurses are there for you, so I would take that precious one day for the day after, once you're feeling it and can understand your limits, and how he's going to need to help.

For me I would rather him be there the day after! You'll be very tried and will have the nurses to look after you and won't really get to spend that much time with hubby, so I would say spend the day with him after to have him running around after you haha :)

Re: Going it alone...
Defo the day after, like the girls said above the nurses will be in and out. You will have someone to pick you up after the surgery though? X

Re: Going it alone...
My hubby had to leave to do the school run so wasn't there when I was taken down to theatre - tbh I was just watching TV once he left so it wasn't bad. I think it's much better to have someone with you afterwards if you can't do both :)

Re: Going it alone...
Hi I would say the day of surgery if your not staying in overnight. If you are then the day after surgery. I hope all goes well for you. Where about some are you having surgery? Xxx

Re: Going it alone...
I'm doing it mostly alone- going there on my own on the day, staying the night in hospital then the Boyf will probably pop around later than evening after work. I'm sure it'll be fine, just needs some planning and prep beforehand with food/reachable things. I had an op in December and was so sleepy afterwards that it was a waste having someone there really. I'm also someone that likes to "crawl into my cave" and be left alone when not well!

How will you get home from the hospital? You are having unders I see so they are normally more painful. X

Re: Going it alone...
For the trip home, one, take a pillow to cushion your boobs from the seatbelt, and two, you might need help getting out the car at the other end!

Yes charlii is right. I took a pillow and it really helped. Also wear something loose like a tracksuit or something and shies you can just slip on xx

Re: Going it alone...
Good idea! My plan is to arrive in tracksuit type thing (which I'll wear home), fresh vest top and knickers, a few toiletries and phone charger- trying to pack the minimum to be able to carry it home comfortably. Probably won't bother taking pj's and sleep in the hospital gown. Will definitely take my little cushtie pillow thing along now!

Re: Going it alone...
Thanks guys - I'm thinking day after. I think I'm a day case (it's at the Nuffield tunbridge wells) - I can get husband to come to hospital straight from work and then bring me home and look after me the next day. If he can't pick me up (if i get discharged too late for him to leave kids) then I'll get a taxi - that would be embarrassing tho!! Oh hi - I've just had new baps put on, drive carefully!! Xx

Re: Going it alone...
Hi I was newly single and so I had no choice. I left for London on my own arrived at 11pm at a deserted station, got a taxi to a hotel, stayed on my own and Wales to the hospital the next morning on my own. I had no one to visit me when I woke. My parents collected me the next morning on discharge. I had no help at home with the kids. So if I could do that I'm sure you will be fine
